If you want a robust, tool-free mounting solution to tow a trailer with your family's bikes, choose SUMERIANS TARTUF Bike Trailer Hitch; if you need a soft, versatile passenger cushion for carrying kids or cargo on the back of an existing rack, choose ROCKBROS Bike Rear Seat.
These two products serve fundamentally different purposes in the cycling world, and confusing them would be a costly mistake. The SUMERIANS TARTUF is a precision-engineered metal interface designed to bridge the gap between your bike's axle and a trailer system, prioritizing structural integrity and quick swaps. The ROCKBROS is a soft-accessory pad that transforms a standard rear shelf into a comfortable seating area, prioritizing user comfort and waterproof durability. For RV owners who frequently set up camp and move between different vehicles, understanding this distinction is critical before you pack either item into your gear bin. One gets you moving a load behind you; the other makes sitting on top of a load bearable.
• SUMERIANS TARTUF: Built from polished stainless steel for maximum strength and durability, it allows for tool-free installation in under a minute but requires careful handling to protect bike paint when using thru-axles.
• ROCKBROS: Features a high-toughness PP base shell with soft PU foam padding and a waterproof surface, offering instant setup with hook-and-loop straps but lacking the rigid towing capacity of a metal hitch.
• Best for: SUMERIANS TARTUF is for riders who need to attach a trailer to their specific bike axle securely and frequently.
• Best for: ROCKBROS is for parents or cargo haulers who need to convert a flat rack into a padded seat without buying a whole new child seat system.
The SUMERIANS TARTUF Bike Trailer Hitch is a specialized component designed for a very specific mechanical task: connecting a bike to a trailer. If you own multiple bicycles within a household—perhaps one electric bike and a standard mountain bike—you know the frustration of swapping trailers from frame to frame. This product solves that by acting as a universal cup mount that fits directly onto the axle. Unlike plastic adapters that might crack under the torque of towing, this metal unit offers a solid anchor point.
Installation is described as taking roughly one minute. You simply remove your stocked axle, place the hitch on, and re-install it tight. This speed is a major selling point for families who are constantly loading up for trips. The ability to switch quickly means you aren't stuck fumbling with tools or leaving a trailer stranded because the wrong bike is parked outside. This detail indicates a thoughtful approach to protecting your investment while ensuring the connection remains secure.
However, this product is not for everyone. It is purely a connector; it does not provide a platform for passengers or cargo on its own. If you are looking to carry a child on your back, this will not work. If your goal is simply to upgrade the look of your bike or add a rear light, this is overkill. It is strictly for the utility of towing. You should skip this if you do not own a trailer or if your bike uses a standard quick-release axle that doesn't require this specific cup mount configuration.

The ROCKBROS Bike Rear Seat takes a completely different approach to rear-carrying needs. Instead of building a rigid structure, it focuses on comfort and versatility through a soft, cushioned design. This product is essentially a high-quality pad that snaps onto an existing rear shelf or rack. The core of its construction is a high-tenacity PP (polypropylene) base shell, which provides excellent toughness against daily bumps and slight pressure. This ensures the base won't shatter if you drop something heavy on it or if it hits a curb, giving it a longer service life than cheaper foam alternatives.
Comfort is clearly the primary driver here. The outer layer is smooth PU leather, which is gentle on skin and prevents rubbing—a common issue with hard plastic seats. Inside, full-fat PU foam filling rebounds quickly after being pressed, providing support for long periods of sitting without causing fatigue. This makes it ideal for short commutes or leisurely rides where a child might sit for ten or fifteen minutes. The elastic drawstring fixation is another key feature; it adjusts to fit different seat sizes and keeps the pad securely fastened without slipping, addressing the common annoyance of a loose cushion sliding around while you ride.
Waterproofing is also a standout feature for outdoor enthusiasts. The surface resists water penetration and stains can be wiped clean easily, making it practical for unpredictable weather conditions. Whether you are carrying a kid or just tossing a grocery bag on top, the dual-purpose nature of this pad shines. However, it relies entirely on the stability of the rack it sits on. If your rack is wobbly, this pad will be too. It is not a standalone safety device like a dedicated child seat with a harness; it is a comfort accessory. You should buy this if you already have a sturdy rear rack and want to make it usable for passengers without investing in a heavy, permanent seat. Skip it if you need a rigid, locked-down safety system for high-speed or off-road use.
• Best for towing capability → SUMERIANS TARTUF Bike Trailer Hitch. Only this product creates a physical link to a trailer; the ROCKBROS cannot pull anything.
• Best for passenger comfort → ROCKBROS Bike Rear Seat. The PU foam and leather finish offer significantly more cushion than any bare metal hitch could ever provide.
• Best for multi-bike households → SUMERIANS TARTUF Bike Trailer Hitch. The quick-swap design allows you to move the hitch between different family bikes instantly.
• Best for weather resistance → ROCKBROS Bike Rear Seat. The waterproof, stain-resistant surface handles rain and mud better than exposed metal components.
• Best for tool-free maintenance → Both score high here, but ROCKBROS wins on adjustability since the hook-and-loop straps allow for micro-adjustments during the ride.
• Best for structural rigidity → SUMERIANS TARTUF Bike Trailer Hitch. Stainless steel offers a fixed, unyielding connection point that is essential for safety during towing.
• Best for cargo versatility → ROCKBROS Bike Rear Seat. It doubles as a protective cover for cargo and a seat, whereas the hitch only serves the trailer function.
• Best for ease of cleaning → ROCKBROS Bike Rear Seat. Wiping down a PU leather surface is far easier than scrubbing grease or dirt off a metal hitch mechanism.
I recommend the SUMERIANS TARTUF Bike Trailer Hitch if your primary goal is to expand your hauling capacity by attaching a trailer to your bike. Its stainless steel build and rapid installation process make it the superior choice for families who want to tow gear or children in a trailer across different bikes without hassle. Conversely, I would choose the ROCKBROS Bike Rear Seat if you already have a rear rack and simply need a way to make it comfortable for a passenger or to protect your cargo from the elements. For RV owners specifically, I lean toward the SUMERIANS TARTUF because the ability to quickly swap hitches between your travel vehicle's bike and a spare cruiser bike saves significant time when setting up camp. Ultimately, the decision rests on whether you need to pull something behind you or carry something on top of you.
While it fits these specific axles, the manufacturer recommends using a hitch adapter to prevent scratching the bike's paint, so it may not be suitable for standard quick-release axles without further modification.
It is marketed for cargo and passenger needs, likely targeting children or lighter loads, rather than serving as a primary seat for heavy adults.
Installation is designed to be tool-free. It uses a snap-on hook-and-loop strap system combined with an elastic drawstring, allowing you to adjust and secure the pad to your existing rack in seconds without needing any wrenches or screwdrivers.
No, the product description lists it as a "Cup Mount" or hitch only. It is an interface component meant to connect your bike to a trailer you already own; it does not include the trailer itself.
