PLEASE READ: Next UMM Breakfast is on March 21st in a joint breakfast at Colleyville UMC. Details below.
Short devotional message by Randy T. including an invitation for men to remain and attend the Allred Kairos meeting at 9:00 immediately following breakfast.
UMM motion to allocate up to $500 for campus turf maintenance was approved by Trustees. Dr. Brad agreed to purchase and broadcast preemergent herbicide. To all men, the reason for allocating these funds is so volunteers can be reimbursed for these outlays. We want to avoid limiting our volunteer pool by offering this reimbursement of spend for UMM-approved purchases related to turf maintained.
Looking for good men who can help coordinate these turf maintenance tasks. Let rstolleson@att.net know if you’re interested in stepping up to the task.
Next UMM Breakfast is a joint UMM breakfast at 7:30 AM March 21st at Colleyville UMC in their family life center located at 1000 Church Street, Colleyville TX. They have a very special speaker planned so you don’t want to miss it. If you want to swing by early, they arrive to start preparing at 6:30 -7:00. Albert Johnson is the chief cook. It’s a great time for Christian men to join forces.
UMM Yard Sale is scheduled for June 6th 2020. We will once again make this a special Saturday alongside the Community Garage Sale and the Farmer’s Market all on the same Saturday. This has worked out great with SUMC and neighbors spending a lot of quality time together. So jump in to help make it happen. If asked YOU can help clarify what’s happening on June 6th.
Farmer’s Market – free fruits and vegetables for neighbors in need. From 10:00 until it’s gone.
UMM Yard Sale – UMM sells donated items in the FLC for pennies on the dollar and it’s STILL our biggest fundraiser. Keep those Spring cleaning treasures in bags until we call for donations in May.
Community Garage Sale – SUMC makes tables available in the parking lot for our neighbors for them to be part of a large sale to raise money for themselves and to sell crafts etc. These are NOT pennies on the dollar but there are some good deals.

Gentleness requires Kindness and Carefulness; it’s a spiritual gift and therefore no necessarily feminine
Sissy Vicious the Beashu, though a hound, demonstrates how to gently eat spaghetti despite the normally aggressive nature of beagle in her. Gentleness can be learned.
If a hound can learn to be gentle then what’s your excuse?
Gentleness is necessary to demonstrate the image of Jesus as a disciple
Gentleness is a masculine attribute

Review of Jaba the Mutt on his stress-related digestive difficulties when visiting the vet and how we are similar.
Lesson series called The Measure of a Man..and Faith is an essential component of manhood.
Jesus said He was a follower of God and asked others to follow Him.
World treasures confident self-assurance. God will measure a man by His standard including reliance on Him.
Life cannot be controlled because God is in control of destiny
Our faith and confidence will be in the mission and purpose God has assigned us
Self assurance is not proper definition of a man. Faith that God will be present when we act and will equip us. AKA Blessed Assurance
World favors romantic and sexual conquest. Jesus didn’t.
If Jesus met our cultural definition of a man then He would be qualified to be neither Savior nor Messiah
We need to reconsider our definition of a man vs God’s definition of a man through Jesus.

Betrayal lessons in the Bible – Primary cause of atheism is those who profess faith live visible lives of sin.
Judas was generally listed last when mentioned in a list of disciples. – Judas was the only disciple not from Galilee. His home territory was occupied by Edomites, the heritage of Herod.
Judas seems to have never asked for forgiveness. Peter did.
We strive to NOT be Judas because of his example. Judas’ betrayal of Jesus facilitated the cross and the salvation we accept today.

Below please find the minutes from yesterday’s UMM Breakfast and Devotional meeting. We had 15 men in attendance as well as special guest, Julie Gough.
Julie talked to us about the many hats we might wear as men (see attached), and told us about a new ministry we would like to start called ‘At the Table’. The UMW launched this a few months back, and have already met a few times since. The feedback from those participating has been very positive and why we are wanting to expand it to the men of the church and our community. This ministry is not new per se as the Methodist church used to do this, but it’s just now coming back in the interest of having a more thorough conversation with each other, and really getting to know each other better. Julie highlighted the importance of such a deep relationship instead of the more superficial, ‘how are you?’, ‘I am just fine’ type of conversation we may have with each other. We would like to launch this for the men in September, but will need 6-8 men to serve as hosts or table leaders. These men would either host the meetings in their home, or coordinate to use the FLC or meeting space at the church to meet. We will have more information on this ministry in the near future, however please contact Julie (see CC) if you are interested in hosting a table or group.
I also told everyone about a project to build a large 7 bedroom home in Lewisville that will serve homeless female veterans and their families. This is being sponsored by Green Extreme Homes and the home will have $0 energy costs when completed. This volunteer opportunity will likely come about as early as later this month (June 30), but recur as they need us throughout the summer and early fall. This is similar to Habitat for Humanity, but will use construction techniques to make the building totally energy efficient. In addition, they will be building a hydroponic vertical garden for the veterans and their children to grow their own vegetables and herbs. I have attached an email with more information and will send out a note once we know when we are needed to solicit volunteers.
Our Scoutmaster, Mike Fuller talked about the upcoming Boy Scout Summer camp. In the past years the UMM have provided a scholarship to offset the costs of camp for some of the boys. This year they are going to Worth Ranch, and it costs about $245/boy to go. It was motioned/seconded/approved to provide a $300 scholarship for them out of this year’s UMM budget. Mike also talked about next year going back to Philmont Scout Ranch for a horseback cavalcade trek. Some additional ideas were suggested for next year including having the Boy Scouts do a ‘Bid-a-Scout’ similar to our ‘Bid-a-Kid’ program our youth use to raise funds for their mission trip.
Our Cubmaster, Norman Trantham discussed the upcoming Cub Scout day camp that will be hosted at SUMC starting June 18. This is being put on by the Trailblazer District and will run during the day that week in the FLC and surrounding area. He also asked if we can help to find service projects for the Cub Scouts in Grades 1-5. They are limited by the BSA rules on what they can and can’t do, so we will need to vet any project to make sure it is something they can do. The opportunities mentioned were helping with the Farmer’s Market the 1st Saturday of every month at 10AM here at SUMC, as well as potentially getting plugged in to the backpack programs for either Smithfield or Binion Elementary Schools. This next school year, we will be once again offering the ‘God and Me’ and ‘God and Family’ classes for our Cub Scouts. This is a 8-9 week class that meets once a week, and we would like to get 4 adults to lead those classes for our Cub Scouts. Please contact Norman or I if you are interested.
Pastor Mike and Sandy Staples talked about an exciting development in our relationship with our sister church in Latvia. There is a strong desire for some of them to come here to the US for the next mission trip opportunity. Some of the ways we can help them defray travel costs would be to consider opening our homes to them when they are here. Details are still being worked out, but as they know more, they will be sending out more details. We also discussed our covenant relationship with them and how the UMM has in the past set aside $500 for this ministry. It was motioned/seconded/approved to provide the $500 in the coming weeks for this ministry. Richard Pullen mentioned that their church (Poly UMC) recently has started a similar covenant with the Methodist Church in Estonia.
Our treasurer, Walter Ott mentioned that we had about $2800 balance in the UMM account, so should have about $2000 balance after approved funds ($300 Boy Scout Scholarship, $500 Latvia) are distributed. Someone asked if we were planning to host a church rummage sale in the fall. This has not yet been planned as this year we had our rummage sale back in May. We didn’t rule it out, but tabled it for a later discussion as we get closer to that timeframe.
Bryan Trantham gave a devotional based on having a servant heart and what it looks like to serve others. He referenced and read Galatians 5:13-18, Mark 10: 43-46 and Philippians 2: 3-8. He told us to not be afraid to step out of our comfort zone to help others who are in need, and to put others needs before our own, and in doing so show love and kindness that Christ showed us.
Our next Saturday meeting is scheduled for July 14. We currently don’t have anyone officially ‘claiming’ that month. Please consider taking this on for a month or choose 2. We really need your help, and want to maintain our momentum through the summer. Also, please look over the list of folks in the To: of this email. If you see anyone missing from this list, please let us know and add them. I heard some folks are not getting the reminders and calendar invites that Randy has been sending, so let’s try to get them added so they can plug in to our ministries. Please let me know if this poses any questions or concerns or if I left anything out from our meeting. Thanks!
John Rhymer

Being the light of the world without pride. It’s God’s light.
As soon as we start feeling proud we are humbled.
Jesus “I am the light of the world.”
It’s the example we set more than the words only. Cor 4:6, Phil 2:15-16
It’s who lives in us rather than what we do.
