Composite carbon–lignin/ZnO nanocrystals mediated from Jatropha curcas leaves were successfully synthesized as environmentally friendly photocatalysts for industrial dye degradation. Structural characterization by FTIR, PXRD, UV–Vis spectroscopy, and SEM confirmed the formation of hexagonal ZnO nanocrystals coated with carbon–lignin and showed that the crystallite size and bandgap were strongly influenced by pH and calcination temperature. The composite prepared at pH 7 exhibited a bandgap of approximately 3.0 eV, while increasing the calcination temperature improved the photocatalytic performance. The optimum conditions of pH 7, a calcination temperature of 600 °C, and 90 min of irradiation achieved a maximum dye degradation efficiency of 96.27%. These findings demonstrate that carbon–lignin/ZnO nanocomposites derived from Jatropha curcas leaves are promising, low-cost, and sustainable photocatalysts for textile wastewater treatment.
