PROFILE OF PROFESSOR SULE MAGAJI
Sule Magaji a Professor of Finance and Development Economics, University of Abuja, was born on 18-08-1968 in Hardawa, Misau L.G.A of Bauchi State. He obtained B.Sc. in Economics from University of Maiduguri in 1992, M.Sc Banking and Finance from Bayero University Kano in 1996 and PhD in Economics from Usman Danfodio University Sokoto in 2005. He started his career in Academics as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Abuja in 1996 and rose to the rank of Professor of Finance and Development Economics in 2011. He is thus twelve years as a Professor as at 1/11/2022. He holds an E-teaching Certificate issued jointly by the Open University of United Kingdom and NUC in the year 2012 after undergoing two years of training.
Professor Magaji is currently the Director, Sustainable Development Centre of the University of Abuja and the acting Dean of Social Science Faculty. He has held various positions at the University including a Director Academic Planning, Director Quality Assurance and a member of University of Abuja Management.
He had also served as Deputy Director Consultancy Services of the University and was the pioneer Coordinator of the University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship, pioneer Head of Department, Banking and Finance, and as Head of Department of Economics as well as serving member of various University Committees. He also has 28 years continuous academic record of service.
In the course of his career, Professor Magaji has supervised 15 PhD, 25 M.Sc students and had served as external examiner and assessor to 15 Universities. He has 103 publications in Journals, articles, Conferences proceedings and Monograph to his credit. He has average of twelve publications per annum in the last three years. He had attended 45 training workshops and webinars, 25 of which were in the last three years. He was also engaged by the African Union, Department of Economic Affairs, for paper presentations in 2009, 2012, and 2014 and in 2015 made similar presentation in Kenya and Cote d’ivoire.
Professor Magaji had contributed regularly on national economic issues in National Dailies and the Electronic Media. In addition, he has at various times served as a resource person to Central Bank of Nigeria, Public Service Institute of Nigeria, National University Commission, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, National Educational Research and Development Council, National Bureau of Statistics, Federal Ministry of Finance and European Union.
Professor Magaji has served as Editor of four Academic Journals. He is a member of Nigerian Statistical Association and Nigerian Economic Society. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees, Misau Emirate Development Foundation in his home State of Bauchi. He is married with children.
