Touhou 7.5: IaMP Title Theme
Composed by U2 Akiyama
Touhou Suimusou ~ Immaterial and Missing Power is the 7.5th installment of Touhou Project directed and written by ZUN and developed by Twilight Frontier. Released on 30 December 2004, the game features 47 tracks totalling 2 hours.
The title theme, composed by U2 Akiyama, plays during the prologue to the game. It lasts ~90 seconds, which makes it of similar length to anime opening themes.
The in-game text for this song reads: "The music for the opening and title scene. Like the openings for the other Touhou games, it starts off gentle and doesn't really pick up. I didn't have a plan for the opening at first, but I pushed it through and made it feel significant. I hope you hear it at least once. The key feeling of this song is "This is what the Touhou world is like."
The song features a unique call-and-response section, and themes from this song is also used in the credits theme.
I tried to incorporate as many melodies as I could hear. The desired outcome was originally some sort of a fugue, but it ended up becoming Petrushka-level difficulty.
The usage of four staves was completely unplanned - I had to use a separate file for the MIDI with combined staves, so that the left and right hand are distinct.
I included a coda so that it doesn't end so abruptly. You can hear the "Kagome Kagome" theme as well as a short phrase I wrote randomly. I originally wanted to end it like Liszt, but considering the mood of the song, I decided to settle with an abridged ending instead.
