Development of a low-cost portable DAQ based photoacoustic tomography system

Abstract:

Medical Devices are speedily turning into moveable and mobile. The end-user expects the devices to be easy to control and operate within arm's reach. On an identical line, we developed a portable DAQ based photoacoustic tomography system (PAT). PAT combining both optical absorption and ultrasound detection is a unique and emerging technology in the field of medical imaging. This imaging technique is based on the photoacoustic effect (PA effect). Multiple sensors and cathode-ray oscilloscopes arrangement are used in this imaging system making the system immobile as well as complex. To overcome those disadvantages, this paper presents the implementation of PAT by the design of an analog front-end and a portable data acquisition system to record the signals generated by the PA effect. Later this recorded data was transferred to the computer for analysis. The Developed data acquisition system was compared with the existing one.
