Positive Perks V.I.P. 2025

The next time you pull out your Positive Perks VIP card, take a moment to appreciate the vibrant, swirling design. It's more than just a pretty pattern; it's a piece of local artistry, born from the creative minds and skilled hands of Taylorville High School's Advanced Art students.

The card's design is a direct reflection of one of two stunning mural walls gracing the Unlimited Possibilities Suessie's Event Venue. This wasn't a pre-made design slapped onto a wall; it was a collaborative project, a true testament to the power of student creativity under the guidance of Mrs. Crowe's THS Art program.

The project began with a vision: to create something abstract and versatile, a mural that would complement any event held within the venue. "We discussed ideas of something non objective/abstract with mute colors, something that would go with anything," Mrs. Crowe explained. The students then embarked on a journey of visual research, gathering inspiration and presenting their ideas to the venue's owners.

From the initial pool of concepts, two were chosen: a tree design for the dressing room and a swirling abstract pattern for the main gathering space. While the tree design was adapted to fit its designated wall, the swirling pattern underwent a significant transformation, thanks to the ingenuity of student Haden Strissel.

"The swirls were altered and Haden worked on his iPad and altered it to fit what we were doing," Mrs. Crowe said. Haden’s digital skills proved invaluable, as he continuously refined the design, ensuring it perfectly aligned with the evolving vision for the mural. The students, empowered by the owners' trust, took ownership of the project, shaping the artwork to reflect their interpretation of the desired aesthetic.

The creation of the mural was a truly collaborative effort. The tree design blossomed under the brushes of Raeanna Tucker, Alisa Becker, Payton Hill, Haden Strissel, and Olivia Hammac. The dynamic swirls, the essence of the Positive Perks VIP card, were brought to life by Haden Strissel, Olivia Hammac, and Lauren Metcalf.

This project is a shining example of how art can transcend the classroom, becoming a tangible and lasting contribution to the community. The students of THS Advanced Art have not only beautified Suessie's Event Venue but have also left a legacy that will be enjoyed by countless visitors. And, with every swipe of your Positive Perks VIP card, you'll be carrying a piece of their creative spirit with you.
