Quantum emitters
Quantum emitters
Recombination of excitons trapped in defect potential of 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC) like MoS2, WSe2 etc., gives rise to single photon emission which can be used for quantum information processing.
Moiré physics
With a small twist, electron-electron correlations enter the game owing to flat bands, paving the way for rich exploratory physics.
Furthermore, boson (interlayer exciton) can be trapped in the periodic moiré potential.
Schematic depicts 2 of the 3 high symmetry points in a moire cell between 2 TMDC, depending on the relative position of the transition metal and the chalcogen in the 2 layers.
Valleytronics
Using helicity of incident light to control the valley degree of freedom of exciton in some materials (like monolayer, semiconducting, transition metal dichalcogenides), which are related to each other by time-reversal symmetry
