Why join the SEA?
Benefits:
Collective Bargaining. The negotiations teams are comprised of volunteers with the goal of representing all buildings and departments to improve wages and working conditions. Members vote on the tentative agreements.
Access to MTA/NEA legal services and insurance protections. Only dues-paying members are entitled to legal representation through the MTA.
Discounts! A variety of discounts in regards to travel, entertainment, insurance, utilities, and more!
Resources:
Local Leadership. Members elect officers and building representatives to the executive board. The representatives in every building maintain strong communication between the membership and board, and help resolve issues in the buildings as they arise.
Access to MTA staff. MTA staff assist in training, bargaining, research, and legal action.
Strong Collegiality. The SEA brings members together to celebrate the amazing work of our educators, as well as to build an awareness of the issues we all face.
Accomplishments:
Wally Bell Scholarship Fund. The SEA maintains this scholarship, awarded to former SPS students.
Representation at School Committee meetings. An SEA board member presents a report at each meeting that highlights the work being done by our members.
Goals:
Safe and Healthy Schools for all. Your executive board, and your bargaining team, continue to advocate for policies and protocols that make our schools safe teaching and learning environments.
Retaining and Attracting High-Quality Educators/Staff: Having competitive wages for all enables us to recruit and retain highly qualified educators.
Classes Where All Students Thrive: Connecting with the community to advocate for lower class sizes, as well as manageable caseloads/workloads where staff can best meet the needs of all students.
