What is IELTS Academic?
The IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System - Academic) is an internationally recognized test designed for individuals who wish to pursue higher education or professional registration in English-speaking countries. It measures your ability to use English in academic settings, making it essential for students and professionals aiming to excel in an English-speaking environment.
Breakdown of IELTS Academic:
1. Listening :- This section lasts 30 minutes, with an additional 10 minutes to transfer your answers. You'll be tested on your ability to understand spoken English in different contexts, such as conversations, lectures, and discussions.
2. Reading :- Over 60 minutes, you will encounter texts drawn from books, journals, magazines, and newspapers, focusing on academic topics. The questions will assess your comprehension, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
3. Writing :- You have 60 minutes to complete two tasks.
- Task 1 :- You'll be asked to summarize or explain information from visual data such as graphs, charts, or diagrams.
- Task 2 :- You will write an essay, presenting and supporting an argument, discussing a problem, or expressing an opinion in a structured manner.
4. Speaking :- This section takes 11–14 minutes and is conducted in a face-to-face interview format with an examiner. It evaluates your fluency, coherence, and ability to discuss everyday topics as well as abstract issues.
Scoring:
Each section is scored on a band scale from 0 to 9, and your overall score is the average of the four. Universities and institutions typically require a band score between 6.0 and 7.5.
