Last updated: 2026-10-08
This privacy policy applies to the mobile app "Cue Sync: Subtitle Editor" for Android:
- Google Play: package com.simonj.subtitleeditor, developer "Global Utility App Maker"
The app is developed and operated by Kyu-Hee Jang (Google Play developer name: Global Utility App Maker).

OVERVIEW
Cue Sync does not require an account, and we do not sell personal information. You import or create subtitle files, edit cue text and timing against a video and its audio waveform, and export subtitle files. Your projects are kept in the app's storage on your device. The app also uses Google services and an advertising mediation partner for analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration, and advertising.
SUBTITLE FILES AND VIDEOS
The app does not ask for access to your photos, videos or storage. When you tap "Import subtitles", "Attach video" or "Restore backup parts", the Android file picker opens and only the files you choose are given to the app. An imported subtitle file is copied into the app's storage and read on your device. When you attach a video, the app keeps a link to the file you chose and keeps permission to read it, so that it can play the video and show its waveform; the video is not moved or changed. To draw the waveform, the app decodes the video's audio on your device and saves the result in its cache. Videos and subtitles are processed on your device; the app does not upload them.
INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
For each project the app keeps its name, the subtitle format and frame rate, the cues (start and end times and text, plus style and other lines from the original file), and up to 50 earlier versions for undo and 50 for redo, so text you change or delete can remain in this history. It also keeps the app's copy of the imported subtitle file, the text encoding you chose, and the name, location, size and checksum of the attached video. Every change is first written to a change log and then to the saved project, so that edits can be recovered after an interruption. The app also keeps a list of IDs of deleted projects so that restoring an older backup does not bring them back; this list is kept without a limit. There is no fixed limit on the number of projects or cues.
The app may also store basic operating information such as your quality-check limits (reading speed and minimum and maximum duration), cached advertising settings and a cached More Apps list. If a saved project cannot be read, the app leaves it untouched and shows that it could not be read.
The developer does not run a server that receives your projects. The app reads developer-controlled advertising settings and a More Apps list from Google Cloud Firestore, but it does not upload your subtitles, videos or project names. When you open the developer's other apps in the menu, app icons are loaded from the web addresses in that list.
ANALYTICS, CRASH REPORTING, AND ADS
Google Firebase Analytics may process limited app-usage and technical information, such as app launches, a screen view when the app starts, tapping the privacy policy or review item in the menu, opening the More Apps list, whether a review request from the menu or the exit dialog was attempted, unavailable or failed, ad revenue events (ad format, value, currency and precision), app version, device type, and app-instance identifiers. These events do not include subtitle text, file names, project names, or video content.
Google Firebase Crashlytics may process crash reports and related technical information needed to diagnose app problems.
The app shows ads through Google AdMob. A banner may appear at the bottom of the project list. Full-screen ads may appear when the app opens or returns to the foreground, and occasionally when you close the screen shown after a subtitle export. The app does not start a full-screen ad while a project is open in the editor. AdMob may also request ads from the InMobi mediation network. Google and InMobi may process advertising identifiers and device, app, consent, network, and ad-performance information to provide and measure ads, and may use an IP address to estimate an approximate location even though the app has no location permission.
PERMISSIONS AND ADVERTISING CHOICES
The app does not request camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos and videos, Bluetooth, health data, or notification permissions. It uses internet access and the Android advertising ID permission for the services above, and vibration for short haptic feedback when you tap buttons.
When the app starts, Google's consent message (UMP) is checked first. Where consent is required (for example in the EEA and UK), personalized advertising stays off unless your choice allows it, and if the consent result does not allow ad requests, the app does not request ads. If the consent message cannot be loaded, the app still requests non-personalized ads, personalized advertising stays off, and "Privacy choices" is not shown until the app is started again. Where Google requires it, the app's menu shows "Privacy choices", which reopens the consent message so you can change your advertising choice. The app works whatever you choose.
STORAGE AND YOUR CONTROL
You can undo and redo edits in the editor, delete a cue in the editor, and delete a project with "Delete" in the project list. After you delete a project, "Undo deletion" is available until about 8 seconds pass, you open, create, import, back up or restore a project, or the app goes to the background; then the project is removed. Removing a project deletes its saved project and change log and its waveform in the app's cache, and the app removes its exported subtitle files from the cache (files it cannot check may be kept). It also deletes the app's copies of its subtitle file and of any video copied into the app (such as the sample project's video or a video restored from a backup) unless another project uses them; while any saved project cannot be read, these copies are kept. A video you attached from elsewhere on your device is never deleted by the app. You can also clear the app's data in Android settings or delete the app. Local data may be included in a Google or device backup depending on your backup settings; uninstalling normally removes the active copy but may not remove an older backup.
Exported subtitle files are written to the app's cache. "Share" sends the file through the system share sheet, and "Save to folder" copies it to a folder you pick; the app does not delete copies kept elsewhere. "Back up projects" writes a set of files to the app's cache with your readable projects (including their undo history), each project's subtitle file and attached video, and the deleted-ID list, and then asks you to pick a folder to copy the set to; projects that cannot be read are not included, and if an attached video or subtitle file cannot be read, the app does not create the backup. When you export, back up or start the app, it removes older exported files and backup sets from its cache, keeping the three most recent exported files and the three most recent backup sets for each project; files it cannot check may be kept. "Restore backup parts" reads files you pick; the app keeps the parts in its storage so that missing parts can be added later, removes them once the backup has been fully applied, and copies restored videos and subtitle files into its storage.
Because we do not receive your projects or videos, we cannot delete them for you; the controls above remove them from the app. For questions about data processed by Google or InMobi, or to ask us for help with a privacy request, contact us at the address below.
Data processed by third parties is retained according to their service settings and policies. We use these services under their applicable terms, and we ensure that third-party service providers with whom we share user data provide the same or equal protection of that data as stated in this policy.

SECURITY
Your projects, subtitle copies, waveforms and backup files are kept in the app's private storage on your device, which the operating system protects from other apps; they are not separately encrypted by the app, so protect your device with a screen lock. Apart from the limited analytics events described above, the app does not upload your saved data. Communication between the app and Google services and the ad mediation partner uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we limit what the app collects to what is described in this policy.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Timing tools, frame-rate conversion and quality checks are aids, not a guarantee that subtitles match a video; check the result in your player before you publish it. Styled subtitles are previewed as plain text, and converting to another format can drop styling. Only edit and share subtitles and videos you have the right to use.
CHILDREN
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
CHANGES
We may update this policy if the app or its services change. The date above shows the latest revision.
