This Privacy Policy explains how Subtitle Downloader (“the Extension”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use the Chrome extension. By installing or using the Extension, you agree to this policy.

What the Extension does
The Extension helps you detect, download, edit, and translate subtitles from supported video sites (such as Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video, Max, and Apple TV+) and, if you grant optional permission, from other websites.
Information we collect and how it is used
A. Information stored on your device
The Extension stores certain data locally in your browser (Chrome extension storage) so the product can work. This may include:
A randomly generated user identifier (token) used to recognize your installation for account and Premium status
Settings and preferences (for example interface language, default export format, translation provider, track preferences, and which platforms are enabled)
Free monthly download usage counts
Premium / VIP status cached for offline checks
Temporary editor drafts and batch-download progress or failure lists
This local data stays in your browser unless you clear extension data or uninstall the Extension.
B. Information sent to our servers
To provide account, billing, and Premium features, the Extension may communicate with our API at https://api.extensionsfox.com and our website at https://extensionsfox.com. Depending on what you do, this may include:
Your user token, so we can look up subscription status
Email address and order ID, only if you choose to restore or change your Premium token
Subtitle text blocks you ask us to translate with the Premium AI Translator, along with source/target language settings needed to complete the request
Technical request data typical of web APIs (for example IP address, timestamps, and basic browser/extension metadata generated by the network request)
We use this information to operate the service, verify Premium entitlements, process support requests, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.
C. Payments
Paid plans are processed by third-party payment providers (such as Paddle and/or PayPal) through our checkout pages. We do not store your full payment card details in the Extension. Payment providers process billing information under their own privacy policies.
D. Third-party translation services
If you use Google Translate or Chrome’s built-in Translator, subtitle text you choose to translate is sent to those services (or processed by Chrome locally, for the Chrome Translator) according to their respective terms and privacy policies. We do not control how those providers handle the content you submit.
E. Website and streaming content access
To detect and download subtitles, the Extension needs access to supported video sites and related media/subtitle resources while you use those pages. With optional “all sites” permission, it may inspect network requests on other sites you visit in order to find subtitle or manifest URLs. The Extension uses this access to provide subtitle download features. It is not intended to collect your browsing history for advertising.
Permissions
The Extension requests permissions only as needed to provide its features, including:
Storage: save settings, drafts, usage counters, and account token
Downloads: save subtitle files to your device
Scripting / activeTab / content scripts: run on supported video pages so tracks can be detected
webRequest: help detect subtitle or related media requests
Notifications: notify you about batch or download status
sidePanel: show the editor and batch tools
Host access to supported platforms and related APIs/CDNs
Optional all-sites access for any-site subtitle detection (you can enable or disable this in Settings)
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your subtitle content for advertising. We do not require a password for normal Extension use. We do not intentionally collect special categories of sensitive personal data beyond what is necessary to run downloads, translation, and Premium features you choose to use.
Data retention
Local data remains until you clear it or uninstall the Extension. Server-side account, order, and support-related records are retained as needed to provide the service, meet legal and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes. AI translation requests are processed to fulfill your request; we do not use them to build advertising profiles.
Data sharing
We may share information only with:
Service providers that help us operate the product (for example hosting, payment processing, and AI translation infrastructure), under agreements that limit use to providing those services
Authorities when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security
A successor entity if the business is transferred, with notice where required
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information transmitted to and stored by our services. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
The Extension is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
You can:
Change or clear local Extension settings in Chrome
Revoke optional all-sites permission in Extension Settings or Chrome’s extension permissions UI
Stop using Premium AI translation so subtitle text is not sent to our translation API
Contact us to request help with account/token issues related to your email and order ID
Uninstall the Extension at any time
International users
Our services may be operated from servers in different countries. If you use the Extension, your information may be processed in countries other than your own, which may have different data-protection laws.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Extension after an update means you accept the revised policy.
