Brief Bio

Dr. Subhanjan Sengupta has a research interest at the interface of entrepreneurship and sustainability management. He has been researching social entrepreneurship, particularly on the social-market convergence, contextual understanding of ethics, political strategy, and social entrepreneurship as sustainability agency. The sectoral scope of his research has been limited to renewable energy and food enterprises. He also takes keen interest in circular economy, business model and sustainable entrepreneurship. He has been a co-investigator in a project funded by UKRI GCRF and led by Sheffield Management School, on policy, business model, and technology solutions for reducing post-harvest loss and waste of fresh produce in the Indian agri-business sector. He has also been collaborating with the Innovation Management Research Group at the Business School, University of Eastern Finland (UEF), on social and sustainable entrepreneurship. Soon he will be joining the RESOURCE Research Community at UEF to research on how to achieve a socially inclusive circular economy through social and sustainable entrepreneurship, and how that informs future research and action for integrating social and environmental sustainability.

He currently teaches courses on Responsible Business and Entrepreneurship in Masters level, and Qualitative Research Methods in doctoral level. He is currently supervising a doctoral scholar on identity work in social entrepreneurship. In his earlier teaching assignments, he has also taught Marketing Management and Strategic Management.

His research is published in Energy Policy (IF: 5.042), Journal of Cleaner Production (IF: 7.246); Bioresource Technology (IF: 7.539); and International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal (IF: 3.472); to mention a few. His teaching cases are available at Ivey Publishing and Harvard Business Publishing.

One of his research papers was in the Top 4 FINALISTS for BEST BUSINESS ETHICS PAPER category in the Social Issues in Management Division of the ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT (AOM) Annual Meeting in 2020. His PhD thesis was the WINNER of the Padma Bhushan Jagdish N. Sheth BEST THESIS Award 2019; an award jointly given by Jagdish Sheth Foundation and BIMTECH. He was also awarded the BEST RESEARCHER AWARD 2019-20 at BIMTECH for his over all research contribution at the institute. In 2018, he was awarded the EDUFI Fellowship by the Finnish National Agency for Education to visit the Business School, UEF, as a PhD Researcher.
