One of the most crucial strategies in the fight to subdue knotweed and other invasive species is through community reporting and early detection. Entering and tracking locations of invasives within and between states can identify the “leading edge” of invasive species heading our way. Implementing mapping programs to stop or minimize the spread of an invasive species allows land managers and agencies to prioritize control needs and strategies while populations are still small.
Report any sightings to iNaturalist. Per the Mass.gov website, iNaturalist reportings are checked by state employees concerned with invasive species.
By reporting invasive species, you’re contributing to a nationwide citizen science network.
