I've also changed the logic a bit so that it makes the main database and healthcheck database connections concurrently and retries them independently - you don't want to be retrying the main database connection again just because the healthcheck one failed, so for this I created a retryUntilResolved function that will retry the given function until it resolves, or until the maximum number of retries has been reached.

I get it working that it retries after an exception however this is not 100% what I am trying to do. Is there any way to delete all entries from the list that were successful? If I have a list of 1,2,3,4,5 and it works for 1,2 just fine but throws an exception at 3, I want the program to retry 3,4,5 and ignore 1,2 completely. I know that changing a list I am iterating over is bad form, are there any alternatives?

When @Retryable is applied to bean factory methods, it behaves as if the annotation was placed on the type being returned. The retry behavior applies when the methods on the returned object are invoked. Note that the bean factory method itself is not retried. If you want the functionality of creating the bean to be retried, it should be delegated to another singleton that has the @Retryable annotation applied.
