Our core philosophy is user privacy and focus optimization. The core distraction-blocking features of StudyNow run locally on your device. We do not inspect or collect your network traffic or private application lists. To enhance your experience, StudyNow offers optional Google Sign-In and leaderboard features, which securely sync your display profile and focus statistics via Supabase. We also use Google Firebase to monitor app integrity and collect basic, anonymous app usage events to continuously improve our service.
StudyNow is designed to help you stay focused. To provide this functionality, the app requires access to certain sensitive device permissions and optional online features.
StudyNow uses Android’s VpnService to manage internet access for applications during focus sessions.
How it works: We create a local “sinkhole” VPN on your device. The VPN allows StudyNow to selectively route network traffic. Depending on your session type (Focus, Pomodoro, or Emergency), we may restrict internet connectivity for all but your permitted study tools.
Strict Mode: During specifically designated “Break” or “Emergency” phases, the app may transition to a strict internet lockdown to prevent distractions.
Privacy Guarantee: We do not route your traffic through remote servers, we do not inspect, log, or store your network packets, and we do not collect any analytics related to your web browsing.
StudyNow requests PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS (Usage Access) permission.
How it works: This permission is used exclusively to detect which application is currently in the foreground. If you open a distracting app during an active focus mode session, StudyNow detects this and redirects you away from the distraction.
Settings Protection: If you enable the “Block App Settings” feature, the app will also monitor for attempts to access your device’s System Settings or Security apps while focus is active, redirecting you back to StudyNow to prevent bypass attempts.
Privacy Guarantee: Your foreground app status is analyzed locally in real-time. While we log the total time and frequency of your Focus Sessions to help you track your productivity, we do not save your history of which other apps you use, nor do we share any data with third parties.
StudyNow requests the SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW permission.
How it works: If you attempt to open a blocked app or system setting, StudyNow uses this permission to draw a focus reminder screen over the distracting app to prevent access.
Privacy Guarantee: This permission is strictly utilized to render our focus UI. We do not use it to record your screen or read any content on your screen.
StudyNow may ask to ignore battery optimizations and requires “Exact Alarm” permissions.
How it works: This ensures the app’s background monitoring thread and countdown timers run reliably without being killed by Android’s battery management system, ensuring sessions start and end precisely as scheduled.
StudyNow uses the POST_NOTIFICATIONS permission to display a persistent notification while Focus Mode is active.
How it works: This notification keeps the service alive and provides you with a quick way to see your remaining focus time. No notification data is ever transmitted off-device.
StudyNow uses the RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED and RECEIVE_LOCKED_BOOT_COMPLETED permissions.
How it works: This ensures your active focus sessions or scheduled modes are restored automatically if your device restarts. Our “Direct Boot” capability allows this protection to activate even before you unlock your device for the first time after a restart.
StudyNow includes a feature to automatically terminate background processes.
How it works: When enabled, the app uses standard Android APIs to identify and close background applications that are not on your permitted list when a session starts. This is done locally to ensure a zero-distraction environment.
StudyNow includes the INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions.
How it works: These permissions are required for the “Internet Blocker” feature to interact with the Android network stack via the local VPN, and to sync stats and authenticate users. Additionally, they allow you to access external support resources, such as the developer’s GitHub, Telegram, Email, or YouTube links.
Privacy Guarantee: All internet blocking logic is executed locally on your device. We do not use these permissions to inspect your personal browsing or traffic.
If you choose to sign in to StudyNow, we use Google Sign-In to authenticate you and manage your account.
How it works: We receive your Google email address, display name, and profile picture URL. This information is saved securely in our cloud database to authenticate you.
Privacy Guarantee: Your login credentials are managed entirely by Google. We never see or store your Google password.
StudyNow offers a competitive Leaderboard (Ranking Screen) to show focus milestones.
How it works: If you sign in, your display name, profile avatar, and total focus statistics (focus sessions count, total study minutes) are synced to our backend database and displayed to other signed-in users of the app.
Privacy Guarantee: Only your public profile details and focus statistics are displayed. Your list of blocked applications, focus schedule, and local device settings remain completely private and are never uploaded or shared.
StudyNow integrates the following third-party services to support authentication, security, features, and analytics:
Supabase: We use Supabase as our secure database provider to host user profile details and leaderboard scores. This enables data synchronization and multi-device support for signed-in users.
Firebase App Check (Play Integrity): This is used to verify that requests originate from genuine, unmodified versions of the StudyNow application on real Android devices. It helps prevent unauthorized access and modification.
Firebase Remote Config: This is used to dynamically adjust app settings and configurations (such as welcome messages and app behaviors) to improve your experience.
Firebase Analytics: This is used to collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics (such as when focus sessions are started or stopped, and app launch events) to help us understand user engagement and improve app functionality. No personally identifiable information (PII) is tracked or transmitted.
Any future updates to monetization, advertising, or third-party integrations will be fully disclosed and clearly reflected in updated versions of this policy.
Your local focus history, preferences, and session logs are stored locally on your device using encrypted storage. If you sign in, your profile info and focus statistics are also stored in our secure database on Supabase.
User Control & Deletion: You have full control over your data.
Local Data: You can delete all your focus history and preferences at any time by navigating to the app’s Settings > Reset Focus Data or by uninstalling the application.
Cloud Sync Data: Signed-in users can contact us at any time at the developer email provided below to request the permanent deletion of their account profile and synced stats from our database.
StudyNow does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can perform necessary deletion actions.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Since we do not have your contact information, we encourage you to review the Privacy Policy URL provided in the Google Play Store occasionally for any changes.
