Program Overview

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Education Department is a broad, community‑centered division that connects thousands of students, families, and educators across metro Atlanta with meaningful musical experiences. Its work spans four major program areas: Family & Community Engagement, which offers welcoming concerts and events for audiences of all ages; the Talent Development Program, a nationally recognized training initiative supporting young musicians of color; the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the ASO’s flagship ensemble for advanced middle‑ and high‑school performers; and School Engagement, which includes field trips to the symphony, in‑school clinics, teacher partnerships, and district‑wide collaborations. Together, these programs form a comprehensive pathway that nurtures curiosity, develops artistic skill, and strengthens the region’s musical ecosystem.

Music for the Very Young Field Trips

Introduce your youngest learners, pre-K through second grade, to the magic of music through interactive performances that blend storytelling, movement, and live musicians. Due to popular demand, we have now expanded this program to offer weekday options, perfect for school groups.

UpTempo

Before experiencing a full orchestra concert, teens engage in an interactive session led by music professionals that sheds light on the evening’s program. Great for local groups or those traveling to Atlanta!

Music Discovery Series

Up-close performances by ASO and community musicians in an intimate setting, paired with Q&A opportunities that give students a behind-the-scenes look at the art of music-making.

Talent Development Program | Atlanta Symphony OrchestraThe Talent Development Program (TDP) provides 25 young African American and Latinx musicians with the highest level of musical training each school year.

Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra

Each year, more than 300 rising 8th–12th-grade instrumentalists audition for the chance to join the ASYO. Members present a three-concert series each season and enjoy exclusive opportunities to participate in readings, master classes, and mentorship sessions with leading artists in the orchestral world.
