If you are interested in setting up a Basecamp space like this one, see this document.
Either from the link provided or from the email sent, follow the instructions to sign up for the Basecamp sharing space.
This is the front page. First, lets adjust some settings. Click on the circle with your initials in the very top right of the page. (It has my photo in this picture.) You should see the menu below.
Two settings are important here. This is where you change how and when you get notifications and update your profile.
After clicking on the link for notification settings, it will bring you to this menu. You can change what you are notified for, turn on or off emails, and also indicate when you would like notifications.
Here you can also update your name, add a photo, and pick a theme.
The homepage has three main spaces. The top one is a space for all class members. Teams include a smaller group of students. The project option can be used for group projects.
Here's a place where you can ask all participating students questions and also share relevant resources to the project. If you want to see any recent activity, scroll down to a list of all recent activity in this space.
The chat is simply a way to have a conversation with everyone. Ask any questions you have.
The resource pages provides a way for you to share any resources that will help other people in the class. Start a new message where you can share links, advice etc.
Upload any files that are relevant to everyone. Information about the research project will also be here.
This space will help you interact more closely with a smaller group of students. Think of it like the people you sit by in a normal class. It's set up like the class space, but with a few different tools.
Here you can ask for help, share your work, and critique and help others with there's. You can upload any type of file you'd like and a preview will show up in the post. Categorize your messages to different categories so others know what feedback you need.
The system is currently set up to send you a daily email asking what you are working on today. You can reply in Basecamp or also reply directly to the email. Any attachments you send in the email will also show up in Basecamp.
Download the mobile app (Basecamp 3) to get mobile notifications and use it directly from you phone (this is a great option if you are drawing something on paper and want to share: just take a picture with your phone and upload).
The more you intentionally share and interact with others, the more you will get out of this space
Basecamp has a lot more features that are currently turned off. Feel free to mess around and see if there's something else you will find useful. You are free to modify the space as you want. If you want to explore more about Basecamp see this link.
