What can you expect to find here?

I offer expert teaching instruction in drawing and painting. And I am dead serious about it.

It's not that I am merely arrogant to claim that I know the most about the teaching of drawing, but that I know far too many people who do it worse. The teaching of art today, at least mostly seen on social media and from other "gurus", focus too much on just rendering or "shading" tricks, and not on the actual fundamentals of drawing, which leads to the mastery of Form- how it is represented artistically and expressively, through a grounding in Perspective (and Anatomy).

You can check out my personal website here, where you can view my artworks and my CV. I have about 8 years of teaching experience (circa 2025), studied art for about 20 years in total. Right now I am considered a "professional", practicing artist who exhibits work semi-regularly. Teaching is my passion too, as I feel really strongly about helping others achieve their artistic goals, having struggled so much in the acquiring of my skills. I will save you a lot of time and trouble as I have went through all the problems and mistakes of being self-taught for so long, owing to the lack of proper art education in Sg. My dream is that one day we will have a school of drawing we can call "our own", based on objective, nearly scientific principles.

Over time I will post articles not just on technical art teaching notes, but also on the importance of artistic integrity in society. This will eventually form a nucleus of a future book which I hope to write eventually.

What is/Why "Planshet?"

Planshet (from the Russian/French word for "plank/tablet") is a reference to the wooden boards which I became acquainted with when I was studying in Russia.

Maybe due to my autism I found the wooden boards really endearing. They are braced on the back with wood strips. With a good drawing paper stretched over, it makes a wonderful surface to draw on.

I made an excessive amount of them when I was studying in Russia, maybe about 30 boards or so, and I used them for all manners of drawing practice, sketching from statues, and so on.

I think that the name suits the direction of my studio very well- something which is humble and from nature, and in skilled hands, assist us in creating beautiful drawings, even works of art.

"Studio Planshet" is hard to define- it is this website, a planned book, a physical studio space (depending on where I am working), a state of mind, or maybe it's just all of these and none of it at the same time.

(Update December 2025) As I am undergoing some life changes, please hold a little bit while I work out the best way to get in touch. This site is also heavily under construction, so before I decide to promote this fully, I need a bit more time to fill in more information for prospective students. I still have quite a bit of nice drawings to showcase here, both my former students' and my own. Most likely you stumbled upon this site because I passed the link to you haha.
