"You don’t realize it, but you’re somebody’s hero... so don't do anything to let them down."
- Colonel Egan
We are a club connecting students with veterans across the United States, helping to build partnerships between students and veterans.
The SPV Club is committed to honoring and connecting with veterans, preserving their stories, and fostering a community of respect, gratitude, and understanding for those who have served.
Students from River Hill HS interview veterans to honor and preserve their stories, participate in flag retirement ceremonies, organize donation drives for troops overseas, and more!
“Everybody brings something to the table, and everybody is different, so their talents are different. They may be the same rank, or wearing the same uniform, but they all have individual talents. So, you find and leverage what they are really good at. They enjoy it and a better product comes out of the work.”

Unseen Battles, Unspoken Thanks: Why We Must Celebrate Veterans
The men and women were among the bravest and the most selfless warriors in history. Their legacy is one of courage in the face of despair, conviction in the time of indifference, and persistence in the face of overwhelming adversity.
These heroes risked everything—not for recognition, but to protect the freedoms we often take for granted. Their sacrifices, many of which remain unseen and unspoken, deserve more than our thanks—they deserve our active remembrance and respect.
As the next generation of Americans, it is our duty and honor to give back in any way we can, ensuring their stories live on and their service is never forgotten.
“When you’re put in situations that are very demanding, you form strong friendships, a good bond with the people you work with.”
- Bruce Sartwell, Navy Veteran
How Can YOU Appreciate Veterans?
Say thank you – A simple, genuine expression of gratitude can go a long way.
Listen to their stories – If a veteran wants to share, take the time to listen. It shows respect and helps preserve their experiences.
Attend local ceremonies or parades – Your presence alone shows support and appreciation.
Display the flag properly – Flying the American flag on national holidays is a quiet but powerful sign of respect.
Teach others, especially kids, about the importance of veterans – Help keep their sacrifices remembered by passing on their stories and values.
