How Much Do You Talk?
Though we know that classroom talk is important for learning, research consistently shows that teacher talk more than doubles student talk in the classroom. To make it worse, when kids are allowed to talk, their talk is most often to check comprehension rather than develop thinking.
What is the ratio of teacher to student talk in your classroom? Video yourself, or have a student video you, so you will know. Set a goal of no more that 30% teacher talk.
