I am Hasan Barzinji, a rising senior in Martin Luther King magnet high school in Nashville. I am pursuing the pathway of law because I feel like there is so much injustice perpetuated in the world, specifically to those in the lower class that do not understand the system and do not have the funds to pay for an expensive firm to explain it to them. They often get large sentences either for crimes they haven't comitted or purely because they were not allowed a higher quality lawyer, and suffer more than is necessary. I want to be the name they can believe in to ensure a fair and just trial, as they have been promised in the court of law. Eventually, I also want to become a judge to ensure that situations where a person is unjustly punished in proportion to others never happen. During my free time, I enjoy debating, spending time with family, an being active through playing sports and working out.
I am Sanai Price and I am a rising junior at Olympic High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. I would like to pursue a career in law because I feel passionate about advocating for others, and what they believe in. I believe strongly that everyone should be treated equally no matter their race, religion, or personal beliefs. Making me want to focus on areas such as systematic inequality, gender inequality, and sports law as well. Ever since I was a young age, I have been involved in sports and found a love within sports of all kinds. I often know many of sports biggest stars ranging from baseball, football, basketball, and many others. I do my research! So being able to combine two of my best interests, is the ideal pathway for me. During my free time, I like to play softball, spend time with my friends and family, shop, and volunteer.
My name is Ivy Chen and I am a rising junior at Langley High School in Virginia. I am passionate about politics and activism which inspired me to help others and advocate for current issues like climate change, gender equality, education, and human rights. I am interested in pursuing a legal path because I want to be able to make a difference and utilize my passion to represent others, especially minorities. At a young age, I was exposed to the legal path with the guidance and experiences of my parents. I wanted to be an attorney since I was in second grade and I hope to continue to pursue this path to become a lawyer, and eventually a judge. I am also involved with my school's Mock Trial and Speech & Debate clubs that motivated me to pursue a law career even further as I loved public speaking and debating. During my free time, I enjoy volunteering for political campaigns as I have interned for six congressional campaigns and I even ran my own political campaign this year to win a seat for my community's governing board.
I'm Jennifer and I am a sophomore at Vista Del Lago High School in Folsom, California. Although I am not entirely sure if I want to pursue a career in law, I have been inspired to consider the possibility for multiple reasons. For one, my grandfather was a lawyer, and even though I never got to meet him, I was motivated by his story. He was able to use his legal education in order to become a counterintelligence officer in World War II. Another important motivation is my desire to bring about societal change. I have a strong sense of justice, and I want to use this in order to make a difference in social issues that are important to me, such as prison reform, homelessness, and systemic discrimination. The everyday components of being a lawyer also appeal to me. I’ve always liked reading, writing, and have developed my public speaking skills throughout middle and high school. In my free time, I love to read, go on walks with my pet husky (his name is Maverick), and talk to my friends.
My name is Hamshika Rajkumar and I will be a sophomore in the upcoming school year at Piscataway High School in New Jersey. The notion of assisting others and being a voice for those who are not heard has firmly grasped my attention. There is no doubt the current criminal justice system needs reform as it targets the impoverished and people of color. Those who come in contact with the criminal justice system are sentenced to encounter it over and over again in an endless cycle. Many in need of help, are unjustly punished for crimes brought upon them due to their hardships. These people are defined by their mistakes, given criminal records, and placed in dire situations causing them to commit more serious crimes, all of which places society further away from the ultimate goal: a safer community. However, simply being aware of these issues is insufficient. I aim to actively take part in the change that must take place in the world. Having a legal profession will allow me to better represent those who's hardships are ignored. Aside from law-related activities, I enjoy reading, volunteering, drawing, and playing tennis during my leisure time.
My name is Kavan Samant and I am a rising sophomore at Palo Alto High School in California. I want to pursue a career in law because I want to be able to help others that are victims of the flawed criminal justice system that we have. This past summer I wrote 600+ postcards with the Reclaim our vote organization. This organization helps those who are in danger of becoming disenfranchised and being unable to vote. I became interested in law because my aunt works as a Deputy District Attorney at the District Attorney's office in San Mateo County. I attended a few of her trials and seen her prosecute criminals and bring justice to society. It was a fulfilling experience for me to see criminals getting punished for the wrong doings that they have committed. I am on my high schools speech and debate team which has sharpened my public speaking and argumentation skills. In my free time I enjoy reading, wrestling, watching football, volunteering and spending time with my family.
