20 Years of C-SPAN's StudentCam

What is StudentCam?

StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation.

This year we celebrate our 20th anniversary of the competition and we asked students in grades 6-12 to create a short (5-6 minute) video documentary on a topic that relates to the competition theme, "Looking Forward while Considering the Past."

The submission deadline for all entries was Friday, January 19, 2024. Each year C-SPAN awards cash prizes totaling $100,000 to the student filmmakers of the top 150 student documentaries.

Throughout the 20-year history, we have had the support of our cable partners to not only help spread the word about the competition within their markets, but to also celebrate those winners each spring. These partnerships have made StudentCam winner ceremonies a highlight of our community efforts, as our cable partners help us bring together students, teachers, families, elected officials, and other members of the community to congratulate and celebrate these civically engaged and accomplished student filmmakers.
