• Applicants must be aged from 14 to 18 at the time the delegation departs Sydney.
• Applicants must live within the boundaries of the Campbelltown Local Government Area.
• Applicants must show a willingness to adjust to a different lifestyle/culture in Japan. A genuine interest in Japan and its culture is desirable.
• Applicants must be able to eat and enjoy basic Japanese cuisine.
• Applicants should demonstrate a reasonable knowledge of Campbelltown and Australia (places of interest and history), as applicants are ambassadors and contribute to the ongoing success of the exchange program.
• Applicants should demonstrate an understanding of how to support others in the group travelling to Japan
• A willingness to work harmoniously within a group situation while the delegation prepares for the trip and during the trip.
• Successful applicants will need to provide a medical clearance from their family doctor to show suitability for international travel.
• Each successful student must participate in the full student delegation program.
• All applicants will be assessed on the above criteria, as well as their verbal communication skills and their general attitude towards the program.
• The interviewing panel recognises that applicants may be nervous or anxious during the interview and allowances will be made for such instances.
• Applicants should feel free to ask questions during the interview.
• It is anticipated that the interview will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Prior to the interview, parents and students will be greeted by Association members, view a display and respond to any questions about the program.
• Applicants will be advised of the result of the selection process within 2 weeks of the interview.
• A series of orientation meetings is planned to prepare the delegation for their adventure to Japan.
• If selected, applicants are required to attend ALL orientation meetings and the storytelling night upon return.
