Stuart W. Livingstone
I’m an Assistant Professor (Teaching Stream) at the University of Toronto-Scarborough (UTSC) where I teach in the Department of Physical & Environmental Sciences. I completed my PhD in 2017 at UTSC under the supervision of Marc Cadotte and Marney Isaac. My research interests span the fields of environmental science & policy, introduced species & biodiversity conservation. I’m interested in the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning and how conservation policy and management practices act to conserve biodiversity.
As a Professor within the Professional Masters of Environmental Science program at UTSC, I teach courses in Professional Scientific Literacy, Conservation Policy and Plant Taxonomy. In these courses we cover a broad array of conservation-focused content (science communication and research skills, knowledge of statistical inference and experimental design, the science-policy interface, the role of risk and uncertainty, introduced species ecology & management, taxonomic identification and conservation legislation).
I also co-host the new podcast Emerging Environments with Dr. Karen Smith. On the podcast we speak with leading scientists and professionals in the fields of biodiversity conservation, climate change and sustainability.
