About Me

My name is Trent Wan and I am currently a Junior at Scripps Ranch High School.   I  started this project because I wear hearing aids and I know how it feels not being able to hear well.   My goal is to make it so that more people can have hearing aids and won't have to go through struggles in life from not being able to hear.

I have a congenital mild-to-moderate hearing loss in both ears, but my hearing loss wasn't discovered until I was 4 years old.  By the time my hearing loss was discovered, I was having speech difficulties that were only corrected after a few years of speech therapy.  My first pair of hearing aids was from my school district, and my parents remember me telling them that I could finally hear the birds chirping and leaves rustling.  I feel that people may not realize how much they are missing by not wearing hearing aids since so many of the higher pitched sounds are simply lost without wearing hearing aids.  I am thankful that I have access to a good pair of hearing aids, but not everyone has the money to buy a good pair of hearing aids.  Through my project I hope to be able to make it so that people who can't afford hearing aids, can have access to a pair of hearing aids.
