Axolotl Shipping and Refund Policy
Hot weather considerations:
Shipping axolotls is much safer in cool weather.
Always consider the risks of high temperatures and potential delays when deciding how to ship. Anything above 85 F is HOT. Check the weather forecast for the entire shipping period!
Cold Weather considerations:
Shipping in cold weather is generally safe, as long as conditions do not become extreme. Heavy snows, ice storms, and temperatures below 0 F for the period of shipping pose serious risk.
Please note; We do reserve the right to delay shipping in the event of severe weather events.
All axolotls are shipped on Mondays (except for holidays). Axolotls purchased Sunday - Friday will ship on the following Monday unless other arrangements are made at the time of purchase. Axolotls must fast for a minimum of 48 hours before shipping to reduce the risk of fouling their water during the shipping process. With this in mind, axolotls purchased on a Saturday or Sunday may ship on the second Monday after purchase.
Please be aware that we do not ship between the first Monday in December and the first Monday of January due to the risk of shipping delays over the Holidays.
We will not ship Axolotls to states where it is illegal to own or import them. This means no shipping to California, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, or Arkansas.
We do not currently ship outside of the USA.
Adult axolotls require more oxygen and produce more waste, therefore they should be shipped using 1 or 2-day express shipping. The buyer is allowed some discretion during cooler months, but be aware that *live arrival of adults will not be guaranteed unless express shipping is used.
Axolotls are shipped in an insulated box with a large volume of water. The box includes a cold pack to keep the axolotl(s) cool unless temperatures both here and at the destination are to remain below 50 F throughout the shipping process. Every package is clearly marked “Live Fish”.
A shipping notification and tracking information will be sent on the afternoon or evening of the shipping day. Please check tracking information from USPS each day; It is not unusual for shipments to arrive a day (or even two days) earlier than predicted.

Problems in shipping are VERY rare events. All costs will be refunded in the event of an animal dead on arrival when Express shipping is used. With Priority shipping, all but the shipping cost will be refunded in the event of a DOA as long as the temperatures here and at the destination remain below 85 F during the shipping period. Simply send us clear pictures of the animal in the original, unopened bag within one hour of delivery and you will have the option of either a refund or replacement if one is available.
We strongly recommend paying the extra cost of Express shipping when shipping adults, or when temperatures are above 85 F, or the predicted delivery time is in excess of three days.
Standard Priority shipping is $25, add $5 for each additional animal.
Express shipping typically ranges from $35 to $85, and may be one or two days depending on your location. Send us your zip code and we can calculate the Express cost for you.
