WHAT IS A WOMEN'S STRIKE?
Striking is the act of collective refusal by employees to work under the conditions required by employers. The goal of a strike is to force, by attrition, the employer to meet the demands of the employees.
This tactic can be employed by women to force the hands of our society to enshrine our human rights to:
medical autonomy
equal pay
privacy in all personal matters
full citizenship under the U.S. Constitution
What makes an effective strike?
The denial of social and economic participation. Globally, women are 51% of the population. We make up the vast majority of unpaid household and social labor in addition to our roles as paid workers. If enough women were to withdraw participation in these activities, we would have the ability to negotiate for better conditions in society.
United we bargain, divided we beg!
The women's strike can come in many forms and on many fronts. Please participate where you can and encourage your sisters.
No sexual contact with men.
It's not about punishment. In the post-Roe conditions, women can NOT afford to have sexual contact with men. The same procedures used for elective abortions are used to save the lives of women experiencing ectopic pregnancy, preeclampsia, placental abruption and many other conditions which can cause infection, sepsis and death if not evacuated properly. As of 2022, 26% of pregnancies in the United States of America end in spontaneous miscarriage before the 20th week of pregnancy.
Reduce Tax contributions.
The state (and federal) government is responsible for the protection of your rights as a citizen. Limit funding that you voluntarily give to the tax coffers by limiting your exposure to sales tax, employment tax, and voluntary taxes such as gambling.
Lower worker production.
In an ideal world, women could strike by collectively walking off the job and refusing to return. For many women this is not an option (although if you can protest work, please do it loud and proud!). Consider organizing worker slow downs or push days with other women where you work and live.
Delete your social dating profiles, stop posting on social media and discontinue use of health and period tracking apps.
If the app is free, YOU are the product. Do not allow "big tech" to work with the government to criminalize your material biological reality. Don't use media or share socially to help starve the corporations of what they need most: money. Again, women are FIFTY ONE PERCENT of the global population. They can't make money without our data.
NAME AND SHAME
Many of the newly validated state laws do not include an exception for rape or incest. Have an abuser or know of a man who has abused another woman? Maybe fire that social media account up one more time to name and shame. Over 40% of women have experienced sexual abuse in their lifetime. Post-Roe would force them to carry the children of their abusers to full term, assuming they don't die from lack of medical care first.
The items on this list are only suggestions. Feel free to be creative, but BE VOCAL. Tell everyone who will listen that WOMEN ARE ON STRIKE UNTIL WE ARE AFFORDED OUR RIGHTS UNDER THE LAW.
