Our intervention will consist of using core components from general yoga classes and hatha yoga. The 3 core components are poses, breathing, and meditation or relaxation. These will each be broken down into different sections within the intervention around 10-15 minutes each with one of us leading the section. Below are the poses, and breathing techniques that will be used.
Yoga:
Child's pose
Cow-cat pose
Cobra pose
Bridge pose
Downward dog pose
Warrior II pose
Standing forward bending pose
Breathing techniques:
Diaphragm breathing
Box breathing
Alternate nostril breathing
Starfish breathing
The yoga intervention will be completed on December, 3rd at the Sweet Home Gym. Based on the 3 sections that were described above, the intervention will take around 30-45 minutes and we expect to see a decrease in the amount of stress in the students that participate. We also expect the students that participate will implement one of the three different aspects of general and hatha yoga. Below is a link for the various yoga poses that will be performed during the intervention.
Evaluation of stress within STEM students will be measured through quantitative pre and post-intervention surveys. Some of the questions that will be asked are shown below.
