UAB SECRETLab and UAB Youth Safety Lab at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) built “streetbit app” as a free app. It has been developed for research purposes to understand and prevent distracted pedestrian behavior. This research is funded by the National Institutes of Health.
This page informs you about our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information if you decide to use streetbit app. The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions, which is accessible at the streetbit app, unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy.
Information Collection and Use
While using streetbit app you agree to provide us with certain information that is not personally identifiable, including but not limited to latitude, longitude, user activity, the names of other installed apps, and accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer values. We will retain and use the information that as described in this privacy policy and the informed consent document for research participants. We do not collect any personally identifiable information through this app. This app will work only in the UAB campus area.
The app does use third party services that may collect information to improve the app service quality.
The app will use third party services for better user experience, such as, streetbit use Fabric crashlytics to detect any crashes in users phone. Log Data
We will collect data and information (through third party products) through your phone, called Log Data, when an error in the functionality of street app occurs. This Log Data may include information such as your device Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing our Service, the time and date of your use of the Service, and other statistics.
Cookies
Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. Cookies are sent to your browser from the websites that you visit and are stored on your device's internal memory.
The streetbit app does not use “cookies”. However, the app may use third party code and libraries that use “cookies” to collect information and improve their services. You have the option to either accept or refuse these cookies and to know when a cookie is being sent to your device. If you choose to refuse our cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of this service.
Security
We value your trust in providing us your information. We store all information using an anonymous user_id in our server. The streetbit will not distribute your information to any third party for commercial use. We will collect and store data on our own secured server that we maintain.
Children’s Privacy
We do not intend for street app to be used by anyone under the age of 17. We do not knowingly allow users under age 17 nor do we collect personally identifiable information from children under 17. In the case we discover that a child under 17 has downloaded the app, we immediately delete information from this user from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with information, please contact us so that we will be able to conduct necessary actions.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Please review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify users of changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately upon being posted on this page.
