Hair Collected and Donated

So far, we have collected and donated 76 pounds of hair to environmental groups!

To estimate how many inches long hair would be if it weighs 76 pounds on someone's head, we did the following calculations.

First, convert the weight of 76 pounds to ounces (since 1 pound = 16 ounces):

76 pounds × 16 ounces/pound = 1216 ounces

Next, determine how many times 3.5 ounces (the average weight of 6 inches of hair) fits into 38 pounds:

1216 ounces / 3.5 ounces ≈ 347

This means the weight of 38 pounds is approximately 347 times the weight of hair that is 6 inches long. Therefore, the length can be approximated by multiplying:

347 × 6  inches = 2,084 inches

So, if someone's hair weighs 76 pounds, it would be approximately 2,084 inches long.

That means we've collected over 2,000 inches of hair!
