A petition was signed in St Andrew's Mark Lodge No.237 on 18th November 1926 recommending "favourable consideration" for a new Lodge to be Consecrated in the Medway Towns. The petition was signed by eighteen Brethren, of whom half were from St Andrew's and three from Manor of Chatham.
St Peter's Lodge No.842 was to meet at The Masonic Hall at Rochester and the Master Designate was W.Bro. Morton Samuel Dewsberry. He held office as Provincial Grand Secretary for twenty-four years from 1913-1937, thus becoming the longest serving Secretary of the Mark Province of Kent.
Subsequently a Warrant was issued on 1st December 1926 and the Lodge was Consecrated by R.W.Bro. the Rt. Hon. the Lord Aldenham, Provincial Grand Master, on 28th January 1927.
In 1993 the decison was made to move, after sixty-six years, from Gundulph Square, Rochester to The Howard Hall, Wigmore.
We look forward to celebrating our centenary in 2027.
It took thirty-three years for our Mark Brethren to form a Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners, with the petition being presented on 2nd June 1960. There were sixteen Founders, ten from United Service, three from Dewar and one each from Robinson, Manor of Chathem and Olive (Calcutta).
A Warrant was issued on 21st August 1960 and the Lodge Consecrtated on 31st August by the Provincial Grand master, R.W.Bro. Sir Eric Studd.
As with the Mark Lodge, the decison was made in 1993 to move from Rochester to Wigmore where both Lodges meet to this day.
Our name originates from the St Peter's Craft Lodge No.4193 which still meets at Gundulph Square, and is named after St Peter's Church which originally stood in nearby King Street.
