A Partial History
Established in 1868 on one acre, known as the Negro Graveyard, Thomas and Jane Bisland donated an old barn that was used for worship without a minister until 1870 when the Rev. Henry Holmes was assigned by the annual conference. In 1881, a new church was built under Rev. E. B. Scott and trustees; Luther Bell, Aquilla Johnson, Wesley Reed, Claiborn Wilkins and James Burr.
Destroyed by tornado, a newer building was constructed under Rev. T. B. Davis and the present church where we now worship was constructed by Bro. Alfred Reed. In 1965 the church was remodeled under Rev. Fred Williams. This included a choir stand, hardwood floors, and building extension. In 1971, Rev. C.R. Steward added the education building and the church was bricked.
Under Rev. Bland Washington, ten acres were purchased in 1988; a library was built; a senior citizens program was granted; a clothing center and community playground were established. Trustees were: Harden Wallace, Sr., Spencer Sylvester, Sr., Ernest Woods, Sr., Odessa Fitzgerald, Elsie White, Jerrilyn Jackson, and Earl Blakes, Sr.
In 2009, Rev. J.L. Quinn, oversaw our current renovations. The building was extended to include a great deal of improvements. Trustees were: Henderson Sewell, Ernest Woods, Angela Anderson, Jacqueline Nichols, Willie Plummer, Samuel Bland, Joyce Jackson, Spencer Sylvester and Odessa Fitzgerald.
