Rhyming Words Matching Game

This activity is best used digitally but could be printed. You can project the link on your board or zoom meeting to do as a full class, share the specific link with individuals or print it out to give to individual students!

Directions: Click on one card. It will highlight the rim of the card in blue. Click a second card with the rhyming word. If you correctly match the pair, both card rims will turn green. Click the card again to make the pair disappear. If you match incorrectly, the rims will turn red and you will need to try again. To read the cards aloud, click the megaphone button on the top of the screen. You can play as many times as you want. Refresh the page to start again!

Word Sorts

Directions for Use:

  1. Drag the 4 category cards (group 1, group 2, group 3, group 4) to the top of the screen. Spread them out!

  2. Read the words on the white cards. Each of these words will fit into one of 4 groups. Teachers, you may immediately tell students the groups are based on ending sounds (L1)/Long Short Vowels (L2) or you might give them space to sort independently first to see what they come up with on their own.

  3. Move the words to the groups by dragging .

  4. When you are finished, every word should be in one of four groups. Remember, every word in the group should be following the same pattern (in this case, ending sounds (L1)/Long Short Vowels (L2))

  5. Teachers: When your students complete the sort, you will need to check by viewing their computer screens. The game will not tell them if they are correct or incorrect.

Level 1 includes simple end of word sounds.
Level 2 includes long vowel, short vowel.

These activities are best used digitally, however, you could print out the screen and create and cut and paste activity.
