Swim Season Opener is Sept 23rd!
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year and the Stony Point Swim Team. We are looking forward to another great year!
The following information is provided to you by Coach and the SPHS Swim Team Booster Club.
Practice
Physicals are required prior to try-outs. Forms are available at the RRISD Athletics webpage.
During the first week of school, we will have dry-land practice DURING our class period (so bring your dry-land clothes to school. This includes T-shirt, shorts, socks, running shoes.)
Families provide transportation to the pool. Normal swim practice will be at the YMCA on N. Mays. Practice will be every school morning, both A & B days. Arrive by 6:15am and be ready to swim at 6:30am.
ALL Practices are mandatory and attendance is tied to your overall grade.
Practice ends around 8:00 am and RRISD will hopefully provide bus transportation from the pool to Stony Point HS at 8:20am. If a parent/guardian gives permission, in writing, their swimmer could drive themselves or ride with another student.
Tryouts are July 21. Make sure you have your Sports Physical on file and your Rank One forms have been filled out.
Practice times during Christmas break will be announced at a later time, but due the District Meet in January, it’s important to plan for these practices. If you are not in town, the coach will provide workouts for you to swim on your own at a pool at your location.
A backup coach will be named in the event the coach must miss practice. This will minimize any changes to the practice schedule that might require you to rearrange transportation plans at the last minute.

Club Swimming – more practice!
Many of our serious swimmers also swim for local club teams who practice after school in addition to the morning SPHS workout. This is completely voluntary. Club swimming meets give you additional opportunities to make qualifying times for TISCA. The Booster Club does not endorse any particular club, but is providing this contact information for your convenience. There may be other clubs in the area in addition to those listed on our Links page.
Meets
As in any district sport, participation in swim meets is dependent on passing grades. More information is available on the SP website, in the swim team handbook, or at our monthly Booster Club meetings.
Meets vary in length from a few hours after school to all-day or two-day events depending on the number and size of teams competing.
Meets are scheduled by Coach. The final list of scheduled meets will be published as soon as possible.
Booster Club
Booster Club Officers are elected at the end of each school year for the following year. Meetings are usually held on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7pm in SPHS Room to be announced with agenda. See the list of current officers and scheduled booster club meetings. Meetings will be announced to members via email in advance with the meeting Agenda posted on the webpage.
Annual dues, along with fundraising efforts, allow us to support the team by covering meet entry fees, scholarships, end of year banquet expenses, and senior gifts.
