Write-In, Officer for Retirees Candidate
My name is Virginia Massaro. I started working at Stony Brook University in 1980 as a CSEA employee. In 1993 I changed positions and joined UUP. I worked in the same department for 20 years both as a CSEA and a Professional employee. I have been retired since 2000 and remain an active UUP member. I believe in the union and what UUP stands for. I believe the union has given us many benefits and continues to do so though retirement. I feel it is important that we have a united voice. I promise to serve the needs of all our members, especially the needs of fellow retirees and believe in the values being represented by MOU. I spend most of my time now with my family and have recently become a great grandmother. My grandchildren call me Grandma meatballs, and they say I am the best at making macaroni and meatballs. I ask for your support and vote, and if you vote for me there could be a dish waiting for you!
Academic Delegate
I have been an academic delegate in the past, and I have attended a number of Delegate Assemblies in Albany and Saratoga Springs, serving on the Disability Concerns Committee. I have also participated in rallies to protest the unfair, profit-driven EdTPA (high-stakes test) for students in our teacher education programs. As a union, we must work as a unit to address inequities in higher education and to listen to the voices and concerns of all members who have a stake in what we debate and advocate for. I ask for your support and vote as an Academic Delegate.
Academic Delegate
I’ve been a delegate for about ten years, minus the two I served as dean of SPD, and I served on the UUP Statewide Executive Committee. I’ve lobbied locally and in Albany, advocated for Stony Brook at Delegate Assemblies, participated on state task forces regarding the EdTPA and Chancellor Zimpher’s Teach NY initiative, and much more. At this time of severe budget restrictions, university reform, challenges from the pandemic, and national attacks against democracy and the rights of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, we must move forward together--in harmony with our new university leadership whenever possible--to protect the gains we’ve won and push for more rights for all members and workers. I ask for your support and vote as an Academic Delegate.
Academic Delegate
As an active member of the Stony Brook University campus community since 2001, I have been afforded the good fortune to meet and work with long-serving as well as relatively new UUP members, both in my professional work, and in my advocacy work on and off campus. Throughout this period we have been able to navigate the issues facing us, and still balance the unique needs and nature of our campus with those of the larger SUNY system. I have served our chapter as Vice President for Academics, Interim Chapter President and have served all of UUP as the Assistant Chief Negotiator on the 2016 to 2022 contract. It is my privilege to be endorsed by the members of the Members Organize for Unity slate and stand with them this election cycle. Their experience, service and past advocacy for our members on campus as well as on the statewide level over the years are a testament to their collective passion and dedication to our colleagues across our campus community, SUNY and public higher education. If elected as an Academic Delegate, I promise to honor your vote by embodying the ideals of the MOU, and continuing to serve the needs of all our membership in a fair and equitable manner for the benefit of all our members – professional and academic alike. I ask for your support and vote as an Academic Delegate.
Professional Delegate
Serving as a delegate, I can relay our concerns and help to work towards positive solutions. I have been a member of our campus for 18 years and feel it is important to be active and involved in our union so that we have a unified voice. I have previously served as Vice President for Professionals, Treasurer and as the chair of the Social Committee. I ask for your support and vote for reelection as a Professional Delegate.
Professional Delegate
As an employee for Stony Brook University for 28 years, an undergraduate alumna and as a current graduate student, it’s my obligation to be involved in our union and our campus community. It is an honor to represent our members by serving another term as a delegate and represent our members both at the chapter and at the statewide levels. Together, we can assure our voice is heard, and concerns and needs are met. I promise to commit to the full term and to not abandon our members. I ask for your support and vote as Chapter Treasurer and Professional Delegate.
Professional Delegate
I am running for re-election as professional delegate. I have worked on campus for 25 years and been a member of UUP all of that time. As an active member and a delegate over the last few years, I have been able to advocate for our members providing a consistent, dedicated and reliable representation for the Stony Brook campus community. Through various roles as secretary, outreach committees and others, I have always found the union to be a place where our members can go for questions and help when they aren't sure how to handle situations. UUP continues to provide this for our members, as we enter this difficult time post-pandemic. We will have a number of challenges, I am delighted to be an active member in providing the right balance of listening and guidance in ensuring our members are represented. I ask for your support and vote as a Professional Delegate.
Professional Delegate
As a member of Stony Brook University for nearly 42 years, I ask for your vote as Statewide Professional Delegate and Executive Board member. In support of MOU (Members Organize for Unity), I've been an active member in UUP for 23 years in many positions here at our local chapter advocating for our faculty and staff to support our student population here on campus. I currently serve on our campus as the chair of the Health and Safety Committee for 10 years, I have served on statewide committees such as co-chair of the Technology Issues Committee currently renamed as co-chair of The Future of Public Higher Education. I represent UUP statewide as an active member for over 8 years in the NYSUT Health & Safety Committee, AFT Special Leadership Trained, serve on the chapter CCPE and CPR committees, participate in Legislative Outreach Programs, UUP Advocacy in support of SUNY Stony Brook, served in the past as EAP Representative, participated in statewide Conference For Instructional Technology partnering with UUP and SUNY. Please vote for me by submitting your ballot that will be mailed to your home as I look forward to serve you and our members in UUP.

Professional Delegate
I have been at Stony Brook University for the past twenty two years and have enjoyed my work on the local and state levels. I began in Human Resources Services in 1998, served as a Counselor/Senior Counselor in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) from 2000-2018, and was named Director of EOP in 2018. During my tenure in EOP, I have seen the importance of advocacy and standing up for those who cannot. I began my active participation in UUP by serving on the Disability Rights & Concerns State-wide Committee. It was then I realized I wanted more of an active role and was fortunate to be voted in as a UUP Professional Delegate in 2013 and have continued to serve as a Professional Delegate since. During my terms as a delegate, I actively participate in chapter meetings and the Delegate Assembly where I continue to voice my opinions and views to help make SUNY better, and in particular Stony Brook University. It is a pleasure to serve and represent the professionals at SBU, and I hope you will vote for me to continue to serve as a UUP Professional Delegate.

I have had the honor of receiving statewide awards for Advocacy & Organizing from UUP and AARP-NY and created/edited the 1st 10 years of your UUP Happy Pay Day. I am committed to working and excelling in the things I do for my organizations and that is what I plan on doing for You at Stony Brook as a UUP Professional Delegate.
