All students are encouraged to participate by working on a science project at home, and present it proudly at the Science Fair for the Stony Brook community to see. This site provides everything you need to know about the science fair, and other helpful resources.
Our science fair is non-competitive. Our goal is to encourage scientific exploration and discovery and promote a deep lifelong passion for science. Each participant will have an opportunity to briefly present their work in person on March 8th 2025, and to their class during the following week.
New this year: A Parent Career Fair!
Our upcoming Science Fair is getting even better—with a special Mini Career Fair presented by Stony Brook parents for our All Star students in grades PreK-5. Our hope is that students can explore different STEAM-related careers in a fun and interactive way!
This is open to all professionals who work in STEAM-related fields who would like to share their experience with our SB students and community. You can make a presentation board about your career or bring your laptop and show slides. You can also bring materials that reflect your job, as long as they are safe to be in school.
As an alternative to the traditional science fair project, the SB PTO is excited to offer an in-school STEAM Challenge during the Science Fair. Students who participate in this program will meet at their designated grade level time slot and work with our STEAM teacher Mrs. Akroyd on an in-person, on-site project. This program is limited to 15 children per session.
Please Note: Your child can only do one program, either an at-home project or the in-school STEAM challenge. No students will be permitted to register for both.
9am-10am for PreK-2nd grade and
11am-12pm for 3rd-5th grade
Career Fair will be 10am - 11am (inbetween the science fair sessions)
Details on the STEAM project will be shared upon arrival at the Science Fair in the school Science Lab. All materials will be provided. Students simply need to show up on time with their enthusiasm for problem solving!
Space is limited to 15 students per session. Sign up using the registration button above.
Student must choose either the at-home project or in-school STEAM Challenge. They cannot do both.
Gather the information and materials needed to complete your project at home. Share pictures!
Create your presentation and showcase at the science fair, and to your classmates during school day.
Students will arrive during their scheduled times and have 15-30 minutes to set up.
Interviewers will then come to each station to conduct their interviews.
Students are welcome to share a demonstration of their project as long as it is safe to do so. Please note: Students and their families are responsible for setup and *clean up* of their demonstration.
Any special accommodations required for your project, especially access to electrical outlets, must be made in advance of the Science Fair so we can position you appropriately in an area with power access.
