Jessica Hammel is happily married and the mother to two children in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She is currently pursuing her Bachelors in Human Services and works as a Peer Support Specialist. After struggling with her mental health for years, she now strives to encourage others that there is always hope for recovery.
Jess Kanotz was diagnosed with bipolar disorder 25 years ago during her sophomore year of college. She makes stability her number one priority so that she can live her life to the fullest. She gives back by creating videos for her YouTube channel Our Bipolar and by being a speaker for NAMI's In Our Own Voice program. You can also find her on Facebook and Instagram under @OurBipolar. Jess is a wife and a mom and works as an assistant managing editor for two scientific journals. Jess took part in the 1st Annual Stomp the Stigma event as well!
Matthew is the founder of the Stomp the Stigma event, and a regular speaker for the NAMI In Our Own Voices series. He tells his very personal story to high school students and working professionals in an effort to normalize discussions about mental health and mental illness. Full transparency is what Matthew gives in his talk, so please understand it is mainly geared toward teenagers and older audiences. Matthew is a middle school and high school teacher, and has two diagnosed mental illnesses, bipolar disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). He lives in Peters Township with his wife Christina, and their three children, Kaitlyn, Alexis, and Jackson.
