The Stolen Waters Summit was inspired by the recent loss of Indigenous faculty/staff and need of student mentorship on UM campus. Within the Environmental Studies Program, graduate, undergraduates and faculty came together to highlight water issues that Indigenous communities experience along the Missouri River. These efforts expanded with further collaboration with members of the growing Indigenous Graduate Student Association, Native American Natural Resources Program, Program in Ecological Agriculture and Society (PEAS) Farm, and Department of Anthropology on campus. The Summit is the outcome of this collaboration and is meant to center Indigenous and Indigenous ally voices that speak on water, land, and food issues. We intend for this event to further build the Indigenous presence and knowledge on campus by unifying those of us who support Indigenous issues and celebrate Indigenous cultures.Â
