Introduction StoicFriend ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("the App").
Information We Collect Information You Provide Journal Entries & Reflections: Text content you write in journals, morning preparations, evening reflections, free writes, and anger management entries. Mood Tracking Data: Mood ratings and notes you log. Habit Data: Habits you create and daily completion logs. Impulse Tracking: Impulse categories, timestamps, and outcomes you record. Chat Conversations: Messages you send to the AI philosopher personas. Settings & Preferences: Your name, birthday (for Memento Mori), notification preferences, and app settings. Information Collected Automatically Crash Reports: We collect anonymous crash data through Firebase Crashlytics to identify and fix bugs. This includes device model, OS version, and stack traces. No personal content is included. Analytics Events: We use Firebase Analytics to understand app usage patterns such as which features are used and how often. This data is aggregated and anonymous. Subscription Status: We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat processes purchase information through Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Information We Do NOT Collect We do not collect your location. We do not access your contacts, camera, microphone, or photos. We do not collect health data from HealthKit or Google Fit. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising. We do not use your data for targeted advertising. How Your Data Is Stored Local Storage All personal content — journal entries, mood data, habits, impulse records, chat messages, and settings — is stored locally on your device using Hive (an encrypted local database). This data never leaves your device except in the following cases:
AI Chat & Reflections: When you use the AI philosopher chat or AI-powered reflection features, your message text is sent to the Groq API (a third-party AI inference service) to generate responses. Only the current conversation context is sent; no historical data or personal identifiers are included. Backup/Export: When you manually export your data using the in-app backup feature, a JSON file is created and saved to your device's file system. You control where this file goes. Cloud Services Firebase (Google): Crash reports and anonymous analytics are sent to Firebase servers. See Google's Privacy Policy. Groq: AI conversation text is processed by Groq's API servers. See Groq's Privacy Policy. RevenueCat: Subscription management data (purchase receipts, subscription status) is processed by RevenueCat. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy. How We Use Your Information To provide and improve the App's features and functionality. To process your AI chat requests and generate personalized Stoic philosophical responses. To track your progress, streaks, and achievements locally on your device. To send you local notifications (morning reminders, evening reflections, daily quotes) that you configure. To diagnose crashes and improve app stability. To understand aggregate usage patterns (not individual behavior). Data Retention Local data remains on your device until you delete it within the app or uninstall the app. Crash reports are retained by Firebase for up to 90 days. Analytics data is retained by Firebase per Google's standard retention policies. AI chat data sent to Groq is not stored by us after the response is generated. Groq's retention policies apply to data processed by their service. Your Rights & Controls Delete your data: You can delete individual entries, conversations, and all data within the app at any time. Export your data: Use the backup feature to export all your data as a JSON file. Disable analytics: You can limit analytics collection through your device's privacy settings. Manage notifications: You can enable or disable all notifications from within the app settings. Manage subscriptions: You can manage or cancel your subscription through Apple App Store or Google Play Store settings. Children's Privacy StoicFriend is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Security We take reasonable measures to protect your information:
All personal data is stored locally on your device. AI API communications use HTTPS encryption. We do not store user credentials or authentication tokens on our servers (we have no user account system). Third-Party Services The App uses the following third-party services:
