Registered Charity Number: 800344
The SLCF was was established in 1988 by members of the Parish of St Lawrence's Catholic Church in Sidcup. The Charity is an expression of genuine concern for the matierial and spiritual well being of those living in the borough and the wider local community.
Help us to build a community where
justice and peace may flourish
Be with us Lord, lest we labour in vain.
The fund aims principally to:
relieve poverty and distress for individuals and families
provide relief and respite for carers and their dependents
access advice and counselling for those in need
facilitate services for young people
The Charity does not seek to interfere with what other agencies are doing but rather to work with and through existing organisations to support those in our community who are in need. The support the fund can offer need not necessarily be through direct financial assistance. It may involve help of a more practical kind for individuals and or organisations.
The fund replies on local support - in other words, the generosity of people like YOU! Regular donations by standing order or otherwise help the planning of expenditure. Obviously we are very pleased to accept single donations and also bequests from any Will. If you are an income tax payer, we can reclaim tax on your donations through Gift Aid. Perhaps you may be able to consider making a grant or bequest? If so, it would be greatly valued. The Fund issues an annual report on its activities giving full details of its income and expenditure.
The Committee meets on a monthly basis to consider the requests which have been made from agencies or local organisations via the Welfare Officer. Support and assistance is given to families and individuals in the purchase of basic household furniture and white goods.
In order to apply for a grant we require a formal referral letter/email from a social worker, doctor or school which details:
a brief outline of why the person / family needs our help
the number of adults and children affected
a name, address and contact number (the client must be local to Bexley Borough
a list of items needed in order of priority
As we are a small charity, it is unlikely we can always provide everything.
