Help restore a rare Victorian organ

For 140 years, the magnificent Wordsworth & Maskell organ at St Laurence's Church, Corringham, has filled the church with music for some of life's most important moments. Since 1886, its rich and distinctive sound has accompanied baptisms, weddings, funerals, festivals and weekly worship, becoming a treasured part of the community's heritage.

Today, this remarkable Victorian instrument is one of Lincolnshire's finest surviving historic church organs. Housed in its original beautifully crafted case, it remains much as its builders intended. But after more than a century of faithful service, the organ now urgently needs restoration to ensure it can continue inspiring future generations.

Years of use have left their mark. Dust and wear have affected the delicate mechanism, essential components require repair, and the ageing blower is nearing the end of its working life. Without significant conservation work, the long-term future of the organ is at risk.

Our Organ Restoration Project will give this historic instrument a new lease of life. Specialist craftspeople will carefully dismantle, clean and restore the organ, repairing its intricate action, pipes and wind system. Missing elements of the original design will be completed using historically appropriate materials and techniques, while expert conservation work will preserve its stunning Victorian casework and decorative façade pipes.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to safeguard an important part of Lincolnshire's musical and cultural heritage. The project will not only protect the organ's unique character and historic significance but also ensure it remains at the heart of church and community life for decades to come.

When the organ was first installed in 1886, it was made possible by local people who believed that music, worship and beauty should be shared by all. We are proud to continue that tradition today.
