Las Cruces (/lɑːsˈkruːsɪs/; Spanish: [las 'kruses] lit. "the crosses") is the second-most populous city in New Mexico. As of 2020, its population was 111,385. The Las Cruces metropolitan area had an estimated population of 213,849 in 2017. It is home to New Mexico State Univeristy, a Tier 1 research university, with a student body of 15,400. It is also home to White Sands Missile Range (a DOD research facility) and three regional hospitals.
