Veterans uniting to raise awareness and demand reparative justice for those history tried to ignore.
To the United States Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs
To the Esteemed Members of Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs:
Across every conflict in our nation’s history—from the Revolutionary War to modern missions in Iraq and Afghanistan—veterans have answered the call to serve. We stood with courage and conviction, putting our lives on the line in defense of freedom, democracy, and the ideals of this country.
But for far too many, the promises made to our brothers in service were broken upon return. Veterans from marginalized communities—including Black, Latino, Indigenous, Asian American, Pacific Islander, and rural service members—have historically faced systemic barriers to accessing the very benefits and opportunities they earned.
From unequal access to the G.I. Bill and homeownership to exclusion from medical care, pensions, and disability services, generations of veterans were denied the tools to thrive in civilian life. The consequences of these injustices continue to echo today in homelessness rates, suicide statistics, and a widening economic and health gap among underserved veteran populations.
We call on the federal government to acknowledge these failures and take bold, moral action.
A Congressional Commission to investigate and report on the historic and ongoing disparities in veteran benefits and services across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic lines.
Targeted reparative measures, including direct compensation, land grants, loan forgiveness, education and healthcare funding, and other tools to redress generational harm.
Immediate improvements to VA access, ensuring equity in healthcare, housing, disability, and mental health services for historically underserved veteran populations.
A national day of remembrance and formal apology recognizing the service and sacrifice of veterans who were wronged by systemic discrimination or government neglect.
This petition is more than a request — it is a declaration.
A declaration that sacrifice should never be repaid with silence, that service should never be met with second-class treatment, and that true patriotism requires justice.
Let this be the generation that makes it right—for every veteran denied what they were promised.
In unity and in hope,
We stand together to demand equity, accountability, and honor for all who served.
