The St. George Indian (Malankara) Orthodox church in Leicester is one of the active churches in the midlands region under the Diocese of UK – Europe & Africa.
The parish history dates back to 2008 when a small number of faithful families predominantly hailing from Leicester & Kettering regions joined together and decided the need for an Indian Orthodox church within the region to fulfill their faith needs & guide the younger generation in Orthodox faith. Hence, as an outcome of a united decision to form a congregation, and with further approval from the Metropolitan H.G. Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios, a congregation was formed in Leicester led by Rev. Fr. Tom Jacob.
The congregation was declared a parish by H.G. Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios in April 2009. From then onwards, the small gathering of less than 14 families grew in number. Currently, we have approximately 50 families actively joined us in worship and all activities. These families are from six (6) different counties across the midlands - Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire & Lincolnshire.
