Outstanding Alumni

Since 1996, the St. Francis Nursing Alumni Association has annually selected an alumnus to honor at the Annual Nurses’ Reunion in April. All nominations must be submitted to the association by January 31 of each year and include the CV of the nominee. You may submit your nomination electronically to: sfmcson@gmail.com or send a hard copy to:

Your nominee should be a paid member of the Alumni Association and have made a significant contribution in any of the following areas: 

• Nursing Education

• Nursing Administration and/or Leadership 

• Community Service 

• Public Service  

• Political Leadership 

• Nursing Informatics 

• Military Service  

• Other Significant Nursing areas 

The association strongly encourages its membership to recognize the accomplishments of fellow nursing colleagues by submitting a name for nomination. The nurse selected is honored during the annual reunion and presented with an award and monetary gift. View our previous Outstanding Alumni.

Fall Festival

The Annual Fall Festival is usually held in November. Watch for registration information from the Alumni Association!

Association Meetings

The Association Annual Meeting is held each April prior to the Annual Reunion. Board meetings are scheduled in the following months: 

• May - Reorganization meeting. 

• August -Fall Festival planning meeting .

• Jan/Feb - Reunion Planning meeting .

We also meet to assemble information to be mailed to members as needed.

Members are most welcome to join us for all meetings and help with mailings. Please contact us for exact date and location. We welcome your involvement with your Alumni Association.

Sr. Mary Daniel Ruffing Scholarship

• Applications must be received by February 28 each year.

Current criteria includes: 

• Attend an undergraduate or graduate Professional Nursing program in Western Pennsylvania. 

• Reside in Western Pennsylvania. 

• Pursue a degree or studies in nursing. 

• Have at least two nursing courses displayed on the transcript. 

• Demonstrate financial need. 

• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. 

Preference will be given to undergraduate students. If none are qualified then graduate students will be considered.

How to apply:

• Complete the essay section of the application. 

• Submit your Student Aid Report (SAR). If you have not already received your SAR, you can do so by applying for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 

• Submit your unofficial transcripts

Continuing Education

The Alumni Association accepts applications for funding of conferences, meetings and C.E.U.s, up to $300.00. Download the application form.

St. Francis Nursing Alumni Association is very interested in keeping in touch with all alumni members. We are bonded together with the Franciscan spirit and want to share in the lives of all members. We will always be part of each other’s lives.
