NOT OK to hit UPC surveys: DO NOT attack a survey (miner) when it is Under Protected Cargo. If you attack a UPC mining ship you will not gain any loot/resources/materials. Let the player have a chance to mine. UPC and OPC Examples
NOT OK to hit UPC specialty warships when they are actively mining their own specialty resources: DO NOT attack specialty warships (like USS Discovery) when they are on a mining node for their specialty resources (like ` Spores) and the node is not depleted of resources. Normally warships are fair to hit. But these ships need to mine for their gameplay grind loop and the player should be given a chance to do that mining. UPC and OPC Examples
NOT OK to hit any ship in token space: DO NOT attack a ship in token space like lucrative mining systems and Borg probe systems that require a token to enter. A player needs to eat or buy these tokens so it is rude to ruin it for them.
NOT OK to attack or interfere with an armada: DO NOT attack any ship that has joined an Armada that has already started or is heading toward an active Armada. Players need to earn or buy Armada directives so it is not cool to ruin this for them.
These are specific situations when you can attack ships that are normally protected.
OK to hit UPC surveys when they're being used as a warship against players: This closes a loophole. If you attack folks with a survey it will be treated like any warship and can be attacked.
OK to hit UPC ships when they're znode outside of token space. Screenshot required: You can attack a UPC ship on a depleted mining node in regular space (not token space). This is rule has good intentions, but it is often abused. If there are no open nodes on a busy mining day you can clear a player from a node that is depleted.
Before you attack the ship you must be willing to take screenshots and post them to a discord site if needed. If you are not willing to take screenshots or join discord then you should not do this.
You will need to take 2 screen shots. You will also need to click on the mining node and take a screenshot showing there are 0 resources available. Then you will need to scan the ship and take a screenshot that will show the player name and location they were mining.
Just because znode hits are allowed does not mean it is cool. Doing this just because you want to blow something up will irritate people.
OK to hit UPC surveys in a contested active takeover zone: The weekly scheduled takeovers of territories (in origin space) is designed as a pvp event. Alliances that own a territory get special rewards and services. There are a limited number of territories and when more than one alliance joins the takeover it is contested.
The competing alliances gain points based on the amount of time each member ship is in the territory. Since UPC miners are gaining points for the competition they allow players to attack the ships.
This is ONLY DURING an active takeover. At other times, DO NOT attack UPC Surveys belonging to a member of the alliance that owns the territory.
OK to hit UPC surveys in any (origin space) territory NOT controlled by their own Alliance: If you see any ship in a territory owned by your alliance you are allowed to hit it even if it is an UPC miner.
If you visit a territory not owned by your alliance your ship may be attacked even if it is an UPC miner. need to earn or buy Armada directives so it is not cool to ruin this for them.
OK to hit ANY ship besides Voyager when they are mining Rare Anamolies: You cannot attack ships mining regular anomalies because they are in token space. RARE ANAMOLIES are the exception because so few of the nodes spawn and the Voyager mines anamolies so many times faster than any other ship. Other ships can tie up a node for days while Voyagers will deplete the node in minutes.
Since the Voyager token space is in deep space players cannot see if any nodes are available before entering the system. It would not be cool to make another player waste a token when they need to mine rare anomalies because the node is tied up by another type of ship
OK to hit a Voyager when they're znode on a Rare Anamoly; screenshot and 5 min warning required: You cannot attack znode voyagers on regular Anamoly nodes because they are in token space. RARE ANAMOLIES are the exception because so few of the nodes spawn.
Since the Voyager token space is in deep space players cannot see if any nodes are available before entering the system. It would not be cool to make another player waste a token when they need to mine rare anomalies because the node is tied up by a Voyager that is znode.
