Steve Urich's Personal Page
Hi, I am Steve Urich and I am a charitable state registration specialist that loves playing ultimate frisbee, tennis and soccer. I live in Virginia and have four kids. I am sometimes referred to as Stephen Urich in formal settings.
I have long felt a kinship with the nonprofit sector and have served in a few staff and board roles during my career. I have also tried to work with nonprofits for most of my professional career. I spent decades working in the nonrofit compliance sector. I helped nonprofits with charitable state registrations also sometimes called charity state registrations or charity fundraising registrations.
I currently serve as a Board Chair for Eco-Soap Bank, which is a global non-profit that saves lives and protects the environment by collecting soap scrap from manufacturers, sending these to Africa and Asia, where these are recycled it into new bars of soap, and distributing them to people in need. Eco-Soap Bank makes a point of employing women in developing countries to process the soap and create local economic opportunities. It also saves many, many tons of soap from being thrown in the trash and thus helps the environment.
I am a CPA with licenses in Virginia and Maryland. I only worked with nonprofits figuring that these were the clients I was most interested in helping.
I have a BA from St. John's College, an MBA from Virginia Tech, a MA from CERIS-Diplomatic School of Brussels, and a PhD from Heidelburg University in Germany. I completed the overseas schooling earlier in my career when I was working on US government projects in Europe. As part of my PhD program I focused on how governments make decisions and on nonprofits. This let to a deepening of my interest in nonprofits and thier intersection with governmental entities.
I try to play ultimate frisbee 4 or more times a week, and am always looking for more friendly, ultimate frisbee games in the Washington, DC area. I have played ultimate for decades and have organized games and communities of similar enthusiasts. I also like tennis and soccer and which I played in high school and have continued to play for decades and which I still try to play in the rare instances that I have time (Did I mention that I have 4 kids).
I am currently unemployed and enjoying spending time with my kids as they grow up. They are on the verge of becoming tweens and this has brought new challenges and excitement. Mostly though it has been fun and it has been nice connecting with them as they are able to ask deeper questions and try new activities. When my kids are at school I am often walking or hiking with my wife and enjoy nice quiet days.
