I was recently awarded a pretty cool fellowship called the LUCI fellowship, short for the Laboratory and University Collaborative Initiative. The fellowship is funded by the DOD Basic Research Office under their Applied Mathematics program. Along with Steve Brunton, I'm working to develop model-order reduction methods for meshless numerical methods, such as the smoothed-particle hydrodynamics approach.Â
I had the wonderful honor last year to be part of the SIAM Hispanic Heritage month. My Central American heritage (from El Salvador) is a huge part of my identity. My parents immigrated from El Salvador in the late 80s, so it has been a privilege to represent them and my community, and to encourage the next gen of Latine mathematicians.
