Steven G. Gagnon
Ph.D., Second Language Studies
About me
Hello! My name is Steven and I am a lifelong language learner. My interest in languages lead me down the path of second language teaching and research. As such, I earned my Ph.D. in Second Language Studies at Michigan State University. I also taught Korean language courses for the MSU Korean Program, served as the Interim Program Coordinator for the Korean Program, and hold an M.A. in TESOL from MSU. Currently, I work as Korean Language Teaching Faculty and serve as the Director of the K-House at UW-Madison.
As an L2 Korean speaker, I make it a point to use my own insights as a language learner in addition to findings from SLA research to inform my teaching and research endeavors. My research interests, currently, lie in English and Korean second language acquisition, which I explore using corpus-based research approaches. I take a usage-based approach in my research, and go into each project with a goal to bridge the gap between SLA research and pedagogy. I am also a member of the American Association for Teachers of Korean and the American Association for Applied Linguistics. In my free time, I enjoy documenting the life of Honey the Shiba in photos.
